Recreational & Family - How to lock the pedals on a Kettler trike?

I'm not talking about locking the handlebars, but locking the pedals. Disabling the freewheel. Do you know how to do it, or if it can or cannot be done? Has anyone kluged their own method of locking the freewheel?

For what purpose?

My 2.5 year old has never pedaled his Kettler. However, this past week he was in Target and sat on a cheap little radio flyer trike. He took off pedaling up and down the aisles! My wife bought the trike but it is a little unstable (rear wheels are not far enough apart) and we are returning it. So now I want to disable the stupid freewheel on his Kettler to see if he will start pedaling it.

Looked at the Kettrike freewheel demo on the website. Doesn't look as though you can lock it. You are ahead of the game. My 5 year old grandson still will not peddle. We've worked on it, but no go. I'm not too worried. My oldest son would not ride without training wheels until 8 or so and he loves bikes. My youngest started at 5, but isn't much for bikes.

I've never seen a way to lock the freewheel on my kids' Kettler, either. My daughter was perfectly happy to have us push her around all the time. She's 6.5 and learning on a two-wheeler just fine now, her little brother pedals the Kettler without issue, but didn't really start pedaling it until he was about 3.5.

As an aside: Worst thing about the trike is that the hand "brake" really doesn't work for a daredevil three-year-old hurtling down a hill at breakneck speed. My little guy has adapted, however, by steering into the grass and laying the trike down, then getting up and hollering "I'm on fire! I'm on fire". Then his older sister runs toward him yelling, "don't let the imaginary fire burn my brother!"

OK thanks for the verification. Kettler's instruction manual photos don't make it abundantly clear whether or not this can be done. (I wish they would add this option to their wheels; It can't be difficult.) I'll go off and search for trike recommendations now.
