I commited to a charity ride of 100miles on Sept 07. So as I am rather new at this I am soliciting advice.
Today I rode 50km, (30 miles), in just under 2 hours. I am feeling pretty good, I am still breaking in my new Brooks B17 saddle.
Not feeling too bad, however it was colder than I thought and my knees got sore, I think it was due to the temperature 16 c.
Any advice or suggestions on how to prepare would be appreciated, I am currently increasing my riding to 3 long rides (over 1.5 hours), per week plus my normal rides of around an hour the other 3 days. I try to keep my heart rate below 120, and pedal cadence above 85 on the long runs.

I turn 49 tomorrow, weigh 205Ibs and am 5'10".
Thanks in advance.

Paul.

Oh my! OK, pacing, pedaling and learn to manage your hydration and nutrition....fast. A full century on short training is doable, but it might not be very fun.....

Here's the best training plan I can think of:

All I can say is give it your best shot, and if you have to SAG, so what, you will have tried, and if you finish it, COOL! You're committed, so ya might as well give it your best shot. ;) It is possible, as I said.

EDIT: If you have some tights, they will help the knees stay warm until the day warms up if it gets cool.

From Sheldon's site:

Sag Wagon
A car or truck that picks up or otherwise assists riders who have had to stop riding, either due to fatigue, injury, or mechanical failure. This is primarily a touring term, racers call the corresponding vehicle the "broom wagon."
Some people believe that the term derives from the verb "sag", others maintain that it is an acronym for "Support And Gear."

Also, knee warmers might work to as they would only cover the knee.

Thanks Ray for the definition.
I rode another 20km this morning, it was 12 so I wore tights and a jacket. Felt pretty good afterwards especially after a hot shower. : )
