Hi, my name's Mark, a British musician, writer, keen cyclist living in the centre of Hamburg, Germany. I found my way here via Crazy Guy On A Bike and I'm looking forward to reading the forums. Hope you're all having an ace, hassle free summer.

Hi, Hamburg is a beautiful city. I visited a few years ago. I have a relative in Rissen.

Hi, the riding is GREAT here actually, bike is definitely the best way to see the city, dedicated bike paths means that it's very, very safe and bikes, like pedestrians, have the right of way at intersections. You can follow the River Elbe in either direction, to the sea where it forms part of the North Sea Cycle Route, or to the east towards the Czech Republic. A couple of seasons ago I followed the old Roman trade route from the north of Hamburg to the Danish border and then across Denmark to the island of Mors to the north west. From there you can get to Norway or south to Sweden. Excellent cycling.

I brought my Dawes Galaxy with me from England and its great, but to be honest I need a tourer with 26 inch wheels, I'm thinking of either investing in a Koga or having a steel bike made locally like a friend's just done..
