Cyclocross Racing - ugh, i need a new bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

usually a new bike is a good thing but when your options are, reasonably, limitless I get a head ache just thinking about it.
It doesnt help that dealers in the area barely carry any cross bikes especially nicer stuff

haha, i was wondering how long it'd take.
the bike rack has two scott cross bikes and a giant tcx on the floor right now. one scott's hanging up in those really high windows, in case you don't see it at first. it's easy to get down.
what size you lookin for?

flargle,
my post came off worse than it was supposed to. i dont have the means to buy any $3k bike or anything I just mean my options are open to anything being that I dont have any commitment to any brand or things of that nature.
photons,
I ride a 57" toptube in road stuff. ofcourse I could special order anything but I hate going through that trouble for something I might ultimately not buy. I just wish I could go to a shop locally and check out ridelys or something like that. I wouldnt mind looking at those scotts and giant too if they are in my size.
I will probably just end up with a redline or trek since thats what my team shop stocks and just move an older campy gruppo over.
whatever, i will probably just end up riding the same damn san jose as last year because i wont be able to commit to anything.

haha, yeah you were doin pretty well on the san jose. if you wanna take either the scott or the giant for a spin, i work wednesdays and fridays from 6-8pm. i mean, you could take em out any time but with me you wont get any pressure to buy it. i'm a really ****ty salesperson :)

i really do kind of want to continue on with the san jose but I know I will need to move to gears eventually if I want to have any success. Its also a pain in the ass. Just trying to get a tubular wheelset for it is driving me nuts.

What's your budget? Are you looking for a complete bike, or build up a frameset?
Lithuania

im really open to anything complete bike/frame/geared/not geared/$3000/$1000
I dont have much money to spend but I can spend more if I really see the value.
I could just get a niceish frame and run a tensioner to stay single or I could buy a cheaper frame and get campy compentents. so many ways to look at it.
the more i race the less i care about super fancy and the more i think about having the right tool to get the job done the best.

Masi CXR looks very interesting to me, and is not one of the "usual suspects".

one shop near me does have a bunch of the masi cross bikes this year. they look pretty nice too. I believe they have all the cables on top of the top tube too.

Get the Trek. You'll love it.
just to throw out another local plug...
proteus has a slew of felt f1x's, quite a few jake the snakes, a bunch of nova pro's, a major jake, and a supernova in stock. I don't remember all the sizes off the top of my head.

hey ccv, is jim doing practices at the *** campus this year? i might try and make it up for one or two.
Lith, your Bianchi is classic, and you kick ass on it. The thought of you on a geared bike is a bit scary, but i think you would enjoy it.
I second Photons. Check out the rigs at Bike Rack. The Giant TCX is a nice ride and fine enough for you. The Scott is friggin' bomber. Once you see the supports around the bottom bracket area, I think you'll be sold.

Hey, when are we gonna ride?

I built up an ENO wheel so I can run SS this season and have really enjoyed training with it thus far. I'm just saying, don't feel you are limited to SS specific framesets since you might want to run gears later on.

oh i definitely dont feel that way anymore. I have been pretty much only looking at geared frames with the intention of at least getting tensioner

I almost bought a 57cm Raleigh RX yesterday but then I rode a 2006 58cm trek for comparison sake only and it ended up fitting me better so I went home with stuff to think about.

ha! strip a crank bolt and get a ridley. so that's how it works...
Lithuania
09-23-08, 11:02 AM
haha. i actually found the bike the day before. I stopped in cadence in philly because i knew they carried ridley and i wanted to see one in person since they have all those crazy geo. Unfortunately they stopped carrying them but they did have 2 in the basement. They brought this one out and I was like its just a frame I cant tell **** from it with it not being built up. So I was just kind of humoring them about being interested. In reality I couldnt afford something like this. They asked if I wanted to price it and I was like nah thats ok dont waste you time. The goaded me a little bit so I said fine how much. They were like how bout $500? I was like
