Hi Guys,

Looks like I'm a "senior member" already, and I never introduced myself! My name's Al and my senior member and I are both 54 years old. Don Heff turned me on to this forum from his posts elsewhere.

I've been heavily into biking at different times in my life. For you Michigan members, I was in the Ann Arbor cycling club in the late seventies and did the One Helluva Ride (http://www.aabts.org/ohr/) a few times when I was in school there. For you Bay Area residents, I used to live on Tunnel Road, and would ride up that route several times a week.

I did less cycling after we moved up here to far northern California (north of Eureka), mainly because I have to ride on the freeway in order to get anywhere. But I recently decided to HTFU (term I learned here), and just do it anyway.

I've already gotten a lot from bikeforums.net. You guys made me realize what a great bike I have

helped me choose a used (only $100!) bike for my wife

and helped me muddle through some repairs

Thanks!

And to prove that I belong in the 50+ forum, here's what I have by the door, because apparently I can't remember anything without a checklist:

I tend to post too many pictures, and sometimes hijack threads (so that they're about me!), so I apologize in advance for that.

Welcome Al......................have we told you yet that the front derailleur cable viewed in pic 4 should not go around the extra tube between the stay's?..........:) Or...........was that the repair we helped you with and my short/middle/long term memory failure has kicked in again.

Say.......................didn't..................?

Funny - I have a checklist like that for long rides (centuries, etc.)...I have it separated for "warm weather" and "cold weather."

However, if I had *your* checklist by my door, it would completely screw me up -- I'd take my surfboard on my canoeing trips and end up wearing a wetsuit on my bike.

Welcome Al! I like the checklist(s) by the door, I could use one of those ... better write it down that I need one though, or else ... what was I doing?

Nice bikes too!

Check list is a great idea - but for that bike trip aren't you forgetting one essential item....

I failed to see the bike on the list
Every other adventure had the cornerstone element:
fishing: rods
Surfing: boards
Canoeing: Canoe

I often pick up library books or videos at the small library in town. Once I forgot my library card (since I don't take my wallet).
