Ever been to Backpeddling (http://www.backpeddling.com) in Guelph? It's a very kewl place with mostly used stuff.

Does Toronto have anything similar, or anywhere where you can browse used parts?

Hi rousseau,
My kids go to university in Geulph so I have been in Backpeddling looking at bikes with them. Sometimes that I,ve been in the selection is great other times not so great but I guess that is the nature of their bussiness. I am always suspect of used bikes. Are they damaged or stolen?
There was a great used bike shop in Toronto on Queen West called THE BICYCLE CLINIC owned by a great guy by the name of IGOR KENK. Maybe you saw him advertised on the news lately courtesy of the Toronto police.
I don't know of any store in Toronto but I would also be interested if there was.
Happy touring!

Thanks for the tip, rousseau -- I might be passing through Guelph in a week or so, and I emailed the Backpeddling guy and he says he has the old Pletscher rack I'm looking for. :thumb:

The way I've heard both shops described, it sounds like the most similar thing in Toronto (in terms of a reputable shop that doesn't deal with stolen stuff) is "Mike the Bike". I haven't been in there yet, but I'm going to check it out soon.

Another option, near Mike the Bike, is Parts Unknown. Near the corner of Augusta and Baldwin, in Kensington, there's a blue wooden gate leading into an alleyway. Behind Segovia Meats, I think. It's basically a shed packed with bikes and parts, but George is knowledgeable, helpful, and (unlike some others in town) honest.

If you're looking for higher-end used stuff, try High Park Cycle, in the Junction.
