Got to meet and ride with w2brdbkr last night. Did a nice little recovery ride on the bike paths of Ft. Collins CO after I climbed Mt Evans earlier in the day. We'll be riding together on Friday and Sunday too. Possibly Satruday as well. I forget which Saturday ride he's planning on.

Turns out, he's as nice in person as he is online. Go figure!

Here's our pic, w2brdbkr on the left, tsl on the right.

You climbed Mt. Evans on your bike?

I know people do stuff like that, but I can't even imagine it.

A group of us climbed Mt. Evans a couple of weeks ago. The impressive part was once we were on top, a young buck rider came up, still in the big chain ring!! He said, yeah, that was the gear he used all the way up. It looked like he was in his 19 in the back!!

It's a great ride.

I've driven up there a couple of times. I can't begin to imagine biking up there on level ground, much less climbing up. Last time I tried anything at altitude was cross country skiing by Echo Lake. I thought I was going to die. I am seriously impressed.

Sounds like your getting your verticle in - looks like a great time! Glad you made it out there, I know you will have fun. Too bad we'll miss you in a few weeks at North Creek.

I think we are riding the same ride on Saturday as long as he is doing the Century.
What fun, doing my first century the first of June & now my next the first of August.

I have to also say tsl is one heck of a guy, just shows you all people from the east aren't that bad.
I am looking forward to riding together for the next couple of days.

Yes I did & he isn't that big of a guy so I have no idea were all that power is coming from. I think he has a secret weapon someplace.

Tomorrow we are riding a century together so I'm looking forward to that. It will be a good time hanging out on a 14 mile climb. :eek:but once we make it past Estes Park the down hill is awesome!!!

We did a 40+ easy ride today but I played the sweep at the rear of the pack so I didn't see much of tsl. We don't leave anyone behind on our rides & since I know the area I figured it was the least I could do.

He is. Did you know he's recruited his family to dirve his car for SAG tomorrow?

BTW, this ride is called "The Epic Century". 6500 feet of climbing, a lot of it in a single 14-mile climb up South St. Vrain Canyon from Lyons, CO to the Peak-To-Peak Scenic Byway (http://www.coloradobyways.org/ByWay.cfm?byWayIDpar=PEA20011203091744), which itself, is rated as one of the 10-best rides in the world. Route map and elevation profile (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/RU08-Century-Route).

Wish us luck!

I think we have a new Iron Will. w2brdbkr, didn't you just start riding earlier this year, or late last year???

Hope both of you have a great ride. We'll be looking for pics!!!

Wow tsl knows more about this route then I do. :roflmao2:

Yes my folks are going to SAG for the 40 mile ride & my wife & son are doing the 100 mile ride.

I figure the wife won't ride so hopefully she will enjoy doing the sag work, at least she will get a
cinnamon roll out of the deal & they are GOOOOOOD!!!!!!

I haven't ridden the first part (climbing part) so that will be new to me, but I have done the section from Estes Park down & it is my favorite,
I just hope tsl will enjoy it as much as I do.

Sounds like a good (tough) century. I hope you enjoyed tooling around Fort Collins -- note my location on the left :)

w2brdbkr rode the whole thing today (AFAIK). I had to SAG twice, for five or six miles each time.. Just too plain worn out from so much riding these past few days with no rest. Plus the course was, erm, epically challenging.

Still, the scenery was just magnificent. w2brdbkr's family's support was just great too.

You definitely need to hook up with w2brdbkr (who lives in Loveland) and Club Hypoxia. I've never ridden with a finer bunch.

Oh, and yes, I liked Ft. Collins. We had lunch at Rasta Pasta Friday. Great restaurant. Taft Rd back to Loveland was brutal Friday in the heat, and with a belly full of Jamaican pasta.

Sounds like you had a great experience all around. Good for you for at least trying after a challenging week.

I was proud of tsl, that route was VERY TOUGH and you figure what the altitude is that he comes from to try & ride three days in a row out here, I tip my hat to tsl for just trying. We had a few people talking about the lack of oxygen today so it was effecting a few.

Even with all the heat, hills, etc. etc. you never see him without a smile on his face & if you ask him; are you having fun the answer will be; YES I AM!!!
I do have to say he was excited this morning just getting ready for the ride, it was an awesome time.

As for pictures I'll try & post some later, right now this poor kid is dragging butt! Even being a local that was the hardest ride I have done & tomorrow we are doing another recovery ride of 30 miles.

Since the wife & son didn't pick me up at the camp ground I had to ride home so I ended up with 109.16 miles. My longest ride as of today.

My son & wife said they had a good time helping out, he got a little tired with all the driving.

Yen, yes I have only been riding sine Feb. but I really have a good time with this club & they do help (force) me to become a better rider.

Hey tsl, I forgot to ask you did you get a cinnamon roll?
I think they are the best in Colorado or at least northern Colorado. The wife brought one home for me because I was tired of eating sweets.

Oh I forgot, my top speed today was only 47.3 but my favorite downhill I was informed right before I got there that one of our members got a speeding ticket from the local sheriff's department & when I went down the hill they were still there. I gues it is a $156.00 ticket doing 43 in a 30 or something close to that. He was lucky he said because we was doing over 50mph at the top.

Hey tsl, I forgot to ask you did you get a cinnamon roll?

You bet your sweet bippy I got a cinnamon roll! I was *not* going to do that ride without my cinnamon roll reward.

For others: There's a little shop in Glen Haven in Devil's Gulch, about a third of the way down from Estes Park. I can confirm the excellence of said cinnamon rolls, and they're just *HUGE*. Perfect bike fuel for the rest of the ride.

Rode one last time with w2brdbkr this morning, where he got a staple flat. The whole ride gathered 'round timed, videoed and encouraged (read: heckled) him. Just a continuation of last nights' flat-changing contest. He was a real good sport about it too.

Plenty o' pics to come after I get home to my own PC and editing software. This Microsoft stuff on the PC in the hotel's Business Center is for the birds.

I got my pictures all uploaded so here is a link.

I didn't get very many scenery pictures because I was to busy trying to survive the rides and as you can see in the pictures some people have some pretty interesting riding attire.

As tsl said; I got a flat coming back from todays ride & of coarse they all give me a hard time. I guess that shows me they all love me. :D

I think we ended up with just one flat each day, which isn't bad for all the riders we had.

I do have to say this morning my legs were not so excited to move my bike & my behind wasn't so excited to be setting on a bike seat but once we got going & I was able to warm up it wasn't so bad.

So my miles for the weekend goes as following
Friday: 52.49
Saturday: 109.16
Sunday: 37.53

I had a blast, it is so much fun meeting new people & enjoying the company of others that enjoy your sport.
Looking forward to tsl's pictures, I know he was busy taking lots of pictures.

Looking forward to tsl's pictures, I know he was busy taking lots of pictures.

It's part of the strategy. Instead of saying, "Stop, I need to rest", I say, "Oh would you look at that. I need a picture!" ;)

In my six days of riding in Colorado, I was a shade under 300 miles. And roughly 450 pictures. That's a lot of resting. :innocent:
