Southern California - Bike Repair Classes in Orange County California

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am looking for bicycle repair classes in Orange County. I have checked into the Park Tool Schools but there isn't anything local.
Anyone have recommendations?

Thanks, I will look into what REI has. My goal is to be able to do everything on the bike myself including take the bike down to the frame and reassemblying it.

I checked with Switchback and they do have repair classes from time to time. This is great because they are the closest bike shop to my house. They are no more than a mile away.
Thanks,

An update on Switchback Cyclery. I was told by them that when they do have classes, they are typically just basic maintenance and that they would not make a bike mechanic out of someone. This is a good start, but I am still interested in something more comprehensive.

You can learn everything from a good book as well.

Well, I have the Barnett Manual which is about as good as it gets. I am little unsure if I want to un-adjust my front derailleur and then attempt to adjust it on my own. Having someone standing next to me that know how to set a front derailleur would be very helpful. If I had a spare bike to work on then a book would probably work fine, but I ride almost every day so I can't risk not getting my bike back to together and working correctly.

Yeah, I am actually looking for a mountain bike, but I would like to get one that fits. I have been looking for an XL with suspension.
In the mean time, I keep trying to learn as much as I can about bicycle mechanics.
bike oven and bike kitchen in LA have pretty good classes. you may have to ride (or drive) a bit, but they are great classes from what i've heard.

It looks like Bike Kitchen is only in San Francisco but Bike Oven is in Los Angeles and is close enough for me.
Thanks for letting me know about them.

Thanks, I didn't know that Bike Kitchen was in Southern California. It looks like a good place to learn how to build bikes.
