Tomorrow it will rise to a high of -1F. I'm inside wrapped in blankets trying to break this sinus/chest infection. I'm not as weak as I was yesterday, this has really zapped me. I felt like I had climbed a mountain yesterday changing the sweaty sheets. I hope I'm a 100% soon! Being sick sucks. I can't wait to get out riding!
Saturday's high is +15, they say it'll feel like +60. But the NWS has the cold coming back next week, just when I'm suppose to be able to start back to work. Been a nice respite. I keep thinking the folks at work think I'm whimping out on riding in this stuff. I do have a Doctor's note, stating to stay home through Friday.
Monday's a long ways a way. Lotsa fluids, stay warm, and watch TDF videos.

I wonder if being out in the drastic cold ever effects a person's "thermostat?"
THis is my first year of winter cycling and I had a wierd experience a couple weeks ago.
I woke up in the middle of the night completely frozen. I had on all of the covers and the house was normal temp. yet I was vibrating and shaking all over the place. I could barely get control of my limbs enough to climb into a hot bath. When I finally got in the bath, i touched the water coming out of the faucet and thought, "wow that's weird it is on the hottest setting and feels only luke warm."
Well after about 30 minutes soaking in the hot water, I finally got warm. I checked my temp and it was 103 F. I felt basically fine however, at least I was warm. Anyway, i went back to bed and felt fine ever since.
It was almost like my internal thermostat had malfunctioned. You ever experience any of that naisme? I figure if it was related to cycling in the cold you might know?

You might be on to something. A few weeks ago after riding in -30F-50F wind chills and then temps went in to the high teens. I had the opposite reaction of being to warm(NOT SICK) inside my house and found myself turning the thermostat down to all most 50F. Just to stay cool it kind of freaked me out at the time but just past it off as I'm just use to being in the cold.
Now you have me thinking is this good for me? I have never seen this drastic of a change. I went from keeping the house at 63F to 50F and now its back up to 63F.Go figure
Get well soon, naisme

Well think of it as saving money on your heating bill. :D Geesh, you keep your house at 63 F? I keep mine at 70 in the daytime and it kicks (programmable) back to 67 while we sleep. Then it kicks up to 72 when it is time for the feet to hit the floor in the morning.
Anyway, I doubt if we will ever know the answer. One thing is for sure, it is conventional wisdoms that being out in the cold is BAD for you. I wish i could count how many family members have told me I am going to get sick and get Pneumonia by riding my bike in the cold.
Most of these people are the same ones that also keep telling me that I need to gain weight. I went on a low fat diet a year ago and only eat foods that are moderate to low in fat content. Along with the biking I have lost 30+ pounds. (6'2" 158lbs)
It is funny that they think something is wrong with me because I don't eat 3 Big Mac's a day and sit on the couch all day long. It is frustrating to work hard at making yourself "better" only to have others think there is something "wrong" with you.
Either way, life is about choices. I will continue to ride my bike in the cold and eat healthy (as I see it). Maybe someday, we will look at people that are inactive all Winter and eat a poor diet as doing something "wrong" instead of vice versa. Until that day, I guess we will just continue to deal with high health care costs.

Yes I do keep the house at 63F. That was pass down to me from my Grandfather and Father. My Grandfather kept his house even lower than I do. I suspect his father passed it down to him. I guess I'm just use to it. You should give it try but start slow 1 or 2 degrees at time every year. You can always put another layer of close on.

Come monday if your feeling better? When you hop on to your bike you will probably feel very weak. Just take it slow and if the temps are below zero call someone to give you ride in to work or call a cab. That below zero riding could bring the fever back.
I hope you get well soon.

Hmmmm... I thought I was the only one that this was happening to. Thanks for sharing that.
