Just a quick call for your expert recommendations....seems like I'm narrowing down my choice of folders to a Downtube, but should I go for an Eight or a Nine? Additionally, is an Eight chain-drop proof?
Thanks.

No single chain ring bike with a rear derailleur is drop proof, still less 8 or 9 speeds. I'd go for the 9, unless your budget is really limited.

Interestingly, the 8's supposedly an internal gear hub thingie, so no deraillers/derailleur; also, 9's cheaper than the 8 as advertised in Yan's website, so the 9 would be most logical if budget is the issue. Going back to the first issue, if neither bike is chain-drop proof, then it should not be part of my equation for now.
But will hold off for a moment to hear others' thoughts. Thanks for your words of wisdom, Sam.

Ah. At least in the UK, some of the old 8 speed derailleur models are still available, so I assumed that was what he meant. If the other option is the 8 speed hub derailleur, I'd be all over that.
Hi ricoflor
I have the 8 speed and it is comforting to know that it is enclosed and well protected. Since I may well pop it in the trunk of the car it will be cleaner too I suspect. I actually bought two and we are both very happy with them.

Ei guys, thanks for sounding off. More ideas are welcome!
Unfortunately here in the UAE, the Bronx is the only folder available ( a UK make, I believe); no Brommies, Dahons, BF's, even DT's. When shipping is factored in, you try to get the rig with the most bang for the bucks. Two years hence, may be Brommie will set up shop here. We'll see.
FYI, opinions still welcomed.
