Ultra heavy, I'd only run them if I was DHing.

The only reistant tyres I have come across were very heavy so never tried them.On the Tube front, I use a heavy Latex tyre, and although not puncture proof, lose pressure more slowly when a thorn gets in and out, normally enough for it to completely deflate 2 days after a ride. They are a bugger to repair though as you can't find the pinhole easily to repair them.

An aqaintance of mine (a commuting biker) uses slime in his tyres. It doesn't work that well as he still gets punctures and flat tyres.

I don't get that many punctures, but as soon as the run of them starts, I turn the tyre inside out and look for the thorn that is embedded in the carcase. (Last time I did it I found 7) and also get the grit out of the inside of the tyre.

I have used the slime before and it is a nightmare. It doesn't stop punctures and it clogs up the tires. I tried it once and the valve got completely clogged up - i had to throw it out - i just couldn't pump it up. Even the old guy at my local bike shop says its useless and everyone knows that.

To be honest weight doesn't bother me, I just want to go a distance without any fear of punctures. I just don't want to have to walk back 10 miles.

thanks for the comment on the latex, that may be useful.

Go tubeless, you'll never look back. I've mistimed a bunnyhop on my bike (tubeless equipped), smashed the backwheel out of shape and still not punctured. In fact, I've only punctured once in two years. I used to puncture twice on a single notorious downhill section.

If you can't afford new wheels then "Stans No Tubes" is said to be great. I haven't tried it.
