BMX - Bike Parts

Hi there.

I had a couple questions about a couple bike parts.

Does a smaller chainwheel give you better acceleration? If so, what chainwheel size would you recommend for faster acceleration? What chainwheel size do you use yourself?

Also, my friend told me about cranks, but I have no idea what those are, and I was too embarrassed to ask him because it seemed like such a simple question.

Is there anything else that I should know for better performance, such as parts that I can replace?

Lastly, is it necesesary to keep my bike clean? If so, how would I clean it properly?

accelleration is based upon the ratio of your chainwheel AND your rear hub's chainwheel/cog etc so for example i run a 30t chainwheel and my back wheel is 11t. my ratio is pretty standard, you can google bicycle or bmx gear ratio chart and find more information on that subject.

Cranks are essentially the pieces that connect your pedals to the frame and to each other, usually referred to as "arms", you'll learn a lot about different bike parts simply by going to an online retailer like danscomp or albes and sifting through the sections on there.

If you post what kind of bike/parts you have maybe we could give suggestions on where the easiest or cheapest places to improve would be etc.

Cleaning your bike is not so essential as keeping all your bearings greased and everything tightened(not too tight) But of course wiping it down every once in awhile is good, just a dry cloth or anything u want is good, I personally never use anything but a damp cloth at most.

Everything is stock and it's heavy as hell, but whatever.

These are all the parts that came with the bike. Please keep in mind, though, money is a really big issue, I'm 14 and nobody where I'm from will let me get a job until I'm 16.

just ride it until something breaks. or if you want, then the first thing you could do is get a casette and maybe a smaller gearing. its a start.

My friend just got the Haro Forum Partial. It looks ok, it's really heavy though. I would just ride it til parts break as street rider said.
