Fifty Plus (50+) - A class Athlete

I came across this the other day. This is something that I would like to see kids emulating.

Nice story. I would rather read this type of story than all the ones on doping:)

It's always good to hear of these kinds of stories. In the heat of competition we frequently forget the human aspect and only think of winning. People helping people, doing the right thing, seems odd that we don't hear more of it...perhaps that's because we see less and less of it. Great post. :thumb:

Doesn't surprise me a bit. Chris Horner is a class act. I've talked to him a few times over the years at the Tour de Georgia and he has always willingly taken time to talk to fans and just seems like an overall good guy. Not to mention his considerable prowess on the bike.

I suspect that most atheletes are more like this then we are led to believe. In the world on "man bites dog" journalism, we usually hear only about the worst of human behavior.

On the other hand, since the revinue generating public seems to eat the bad stuff up.........perhaps we have done it to ourselves again.

I like Chris Horner.

I wouldn't say that. Horner is a good guy, but don't expect him to cut a competitor any slack. It is dog eat dog on the race course, as it should be.

i don't know if my kids will look up to Mr. Horner, but i definitely will. This is the stuff that true heroes are made of.

And it's not a bad testimony for his bike! That frame and wheelset are carrying about 300 lbs or more.

If you aren't going to win you might as well be a hero.
Good job for Horner - it shows he thinks beyond his own being.
