Road Bike Racing - Christmas shopping starts now

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It's on my shopping list. They answered my only concern - heavy use 1000km battery charge. Plug it in on my day off every week and I'd be good.
It's been in the pro peloton now for two seasons. Looks clean, and weight is not a huge factor. Now, to convince the wife.

I'm not sure I understand how 1000km works.
1000km for my gf is not the same as 1000km for me, or for a pro.
She goes about 10x slower than everyone requiring 10x the time. Because she has so little power, she also does a lot more shifting to get over every gradient of the road. Than theres the issue that she constantly shifts while going up hills because she can't maintain or judge anything.
I doubt she'd hit 1000km.
On the other hand, there's also the marketing and ideal conditions type thing.
Who was it in the TDF that lost his FD to Di2? Ended up having to do a climb in the big ring and dropped out of the lead group?

I love beta testers. Personally, I'd rather have Super Record.
Any guesses on the price?

They don't list how many charge cycles the battery will last. Considering the extremes in temperature I imagine that 1000km will degrade to something much less. Any ideas on the price of a replacement battery pack?
Who am I kidding, its Dura-Ace, I must have it...

Concur. I'm more than happy to wait 2-3 seasons, at which point, I'd really love to have an electronic shifting system.
Just because something is good enough for the Tour [the technology] does not mean it's ready for large quantities [volume production].
Time will tell...

Just as an aside on the battery concerns: The light companies have vetted them already. My L&M HiD light is still running after a few years and a factory test this spring. It operates (and charges in my garage) all year round. My concern would be a (supported) tour or some such where I'd have to figure out an electrical source for yet another charger.

Ouch -
Moi, I'm holding out for the Shimano powermeter / GPS system. I can handle shifting on my own.

It does not have 11 speeds! Why would anyone want that?
[Especially when Ultegra, Rival and Centaur are so good]

Well the new super record is going to be over $3000.

Wow! Just think think of all the watts I'll save when downshifting! I tell you, pushing against that rear derailleur spring with my 105 is BRUTAL. I bet you I'll save, what? .0023 watts per downshift with the electric shifter compared to a mechanical shifter? That will definitely make the difference between winning and losing in a race!
I'm gonna be the first on my block with e-shifting!!

I'm sure that I will get what I get every Christmas: a sh!tload of bills to pay.

Your sarcasm only makes you look unintelligent.
No one said these shifters would change your power output. However, the shifting is said to be much cleaner and faster, which would be useful, if money was no concern.

So you tell me Einstein, how a system that still uses a pantogram shifting system , exactly the same system as mechanical Shimano, Campy and Sram, can be any faster, as these people you speak of "have said".
Show me the test, Tesla.
Well you know, there aren't any, because there is absolutely no proof, other than anecdotal evidence by people who are paid by Shimano, that e-shifting is any faster or more prescise than mechanical shifters.
Hence, the only possible difference could be the power assist of e-shifting and hence my sarcastic post.
