Great Lakes - How was your July?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In my experience, July has always been the biggest month, mileage-wise. Good fitness, extra day off, and time for riding. In the spirit of Aham's thread from 07, and his quest for 700 in July, 2008, how was your July? I broke all records. 879 miles, 1 century, 27 days of riding. Just to be sufficiently humble, my average was 16.45 mph (lots of in-town commutes in there slow things down. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it!). 53:26:34
And, on the bicycle entertainment front, saw all the TdF stages on Vs. and spent a day in Waukesha for Superweek (yes, just work and biking is my life).
July and August are my toughest months to get free time. I live in a tourist town and do half of my yearly business in those two months.
That being said I still managed 23 Hours and 27 minutes in the saddle with 440.6 miles. I did two century's and one of those was a personal best. I managed that in 9 days of riding.
September is only one month away then I can put on some miles.:D

July stats were pretty good for me. I can't complain.
miles 565.20
avg speed 18.08
time 31:15:48
One 63 mile July 4th ride with aham23.
One 160 mile RAIN ride with aham23, psimet2001, voldemort and JT1.
Two races at the chicago criterium
Two tuesday night training races
Rest of the miles are mostly commuting

July was actually a low mileage month for me. Barely cracked 300 miles.
And I attempted one race early in the month. It was..... educational. :o
I'll try to do better in August!

best month of miles (1,040). Rode lake hope and west branch, which i hadn't done yet. Got into racing. So, pretty eventful.
unfortunately, i am NOT a member of the 700 club. no sooner did i think about it and i was smacked in the face by the cycling gods :). i needed some down time to fight off the burnout and basically fell one ride short. there is always August!!
that being said, i had a nice month:
July Rides: 15
Avg. AHR: 128
Total Time: 35:43:08
Avg. Speed: 18.3 MPH
Total Distance: 651.9 Mi
some fun rides too. a 4th Metric, RAIN, some harder TT training efforts....ect.
nice efforts by everyone else. lets get rolling on August. later.

Rides = 17
Commutes = 3 :( - that's OK they are slow anyway....and what good is riding a bike slow?....it makes you happy....:(
Distance = 563
Elevation Gain = 19,892 ft
Avg  = 17.93 - with some knobbie action baby!
Time: 31:23:37
Did the RAIN ride, 3(4) races for SuperWeek, 3 fast group rides.
August will be Dairyland Dare, Elgin Crit, 2-Man TTT off the top of my head.
EDIT: I think I had the Cream City on my list for August too, but something will have to give....that might be it.

I think I'm out of town that day, unfortunately. That's one of the best centuries around.
You know the lack of organized rides on my schedule has dipped my yearly numbers significantly, but I don't think that's been a bad thing (http://the-wedge.blogspot.com/2008/07/low-mileage-higher-speed-fresh-pavement.html). It's just meant the times I can get on the bike I go harder, which I think has made me ...I hesitate to say 'better'... a different rider. In a good way.
In any case, even if August mileage is low, it will at least be different. Heading to Atlanta, Memphis, and southern Missouri middle of the month. Sweat Sweat Sweat. And that's before the riding even starts!
One 160 mile RAIN ride with aham23, psimet2001, voldemort and JT1.
*cough* and me too. Sorry, but I didn't know you were there until aham told me after we already took off.
As for me, July has been pretty good.
589.3 miles so close to 600, but meh August for sure!
18.73 avg
31.28 ride time
11 days commuting
1 RAIN ride (139 miles) also first century of the year, man I've been lazy!
I need to get out more....
Man, I love bikewire! Will BFNIC rise to #1 in Aug??? We were only 900 miles short!

638 miles.
Not bad, considering I'm usually hibernating this time of year -- me hate hot weather.
I'm trying to get use to a new fit and riding in the heat before the DD.

here's my whopping stats:
6 rides
106 miles
i went to the bike club of lake county's wednesday night ride at the old school forest preserve this past wednesday and managed to fall in the parking lot because i didn't unclip in time. i felt like the biggest "fred" ever.

that's the best part so far...
my "vacation" ends this weekend though. to make a long story short, we're going to start bottle feeding next week, so that means i'll have to start waking up in the middle of the night. i don't see my mileage increasing much in august.
i'm kind of scared about the dairyland dare. my endurance has hit rock bottom.

Didn't ride at all the first 2 weeks due to some serious personal drama going on and even bailed on a triathlon I had planned. After things calmed down I got back on my bike and rode a total of 300 miles and am WAAAAYYY behind on my preparation for my the half-ironman event I'm scheduled to do in two weeks. Oh well. Feels good to do something that distracts from the drama that is my life off the bike.
Sorry, I don't keep stats, but, I am about 5-minutes faster on my commute from the start of July. :thumb:

I'm almost embarrassed.....I think I'll win the mileage game if there is one for July. Remember I spent 2 weeks of it in Boulder (ended up being there almost 3 weeks!!! )
July 1-12 1,108 miles If you have any interest in looking at my favorite rides, I got them all from mapmyride and they're listed below. Actually it was really easy to get in the mileage....I'd ride 60-80 ish early in the morning, do touristy or hiking stuff the rest of the day and then I'd usually ride again in the evening ....just because it was, well, breathtaking. I'd tack on another 15-20 in the evenings so it really wasn't that hard to get in almost 100 miles a day. Average mile per hour....uphill ...around 7 - 10 mph...up Flagstaff..uh, moving....barely :p
I did some super long days in the early part of my stay that really cranked up the miles and then when my daughter left for camp and my husband left for home, well, what else was there to do but hike, bike and run. ;)
July 13-19 100 miles
July 20-26 130 miles
July 27 - 31 110 mile Total Bike Miles 1,448
Miles ran/hiked/gasped up mountain terrain at over 10,000 feet 122 miles
Calories burned - a million
Calories eaten - a gazillion
Weight change - GAINED 2 POUNDS !!!!!!

http://www.mapmyride.com/route/united-states/co/boulder/419908589 Deliciously difficult climb that I would have never dared to ride had it not been for 2 older gentlemen heading up the mountain with me to talk me past my fear of no guard rails....and traffic...albeit very careful, bike friendly traffic....I'd never have made it up there without them riding with me :)
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/co/boulder/384638525 This NCAR climb was one of my favorites. Not terribly difficult but challenging, indeed. Loved the open mesa area and view from the top....I'd ride up and down, up and down....along with numerous other cyclists including a group of kids age 8-12 that rode repeats there in the late mornings.
Next year, we'll be in Boulder during the summer for a month. Gothic and Gunnison, CO are calling my name, too. Eventually, I'll call it home.
Edit...alert ..the biking total includes my mileage from the last week in June as well so you can subtract off 400 miles for a true "july" total. Guess I should have labeled in "Rockies Mileage"
One other thought...for all the climbing I did, I still didn't find it as difficult as the DLD course. The climbs are longer but you feel like you could ride them for a long time whereas the Dare course has some inclines that really leave me wondering if I'm gonna make it!

Are you the one to thank for the Salted Nut Roll????? Someone mentioned them at a ride ( I was thinking it was you?) I picked one up in CO on a ride and ended up eating them a lot!!!! Addictive...hence the 2 pound weight gain! Maybe it was someone else ....I can't remember.

Nice work everyone. I had a slow month (but still more than my July last year) My time in the saddle was a shade over 20hrs. Mileage was 342. I was hoping for more but was hampered by a severely sprained ankle for the first two weeks. This has been a year of (non-cycling related) injuries for me. Guess I need to just stay on the bike!
I'm looking forward to a big August that should start with back to back centuries this weekend, and DLD (200k- I hope!) later.

Lots o miles out here in this group. Being a morning before-work rider, July is my biggest month too. It would help if Indiana never went on DST, or used CST instead of EST, but still my best month....757 miles (a new monthly high), 19.07 mph average, a new speed record for me - 21.0 mph over 29 miles, including some hills (well, Indiana hills anyway) and my first true Century ride. Quite happy with the month. Nice to know I rank somewhere in the ballpark of some of this serious BF Great Lakers. None of the miles are commuting (I live less than a mile from work) and none were special clubs rides this month - just morning "training" miles and longer Saturday morning rides - 25 total rides for the month.
