There's a really interesting and potentially sport changing debate going on in another forum I frequent (www.cyclo-cross.com) about wether Elite Class racers should race by themselves and not have all categories racing together.
I think this already happens in the States where you guys have Category A races and B races etc, but in the UK, we all race together...Juniors, Vets and Seniors etc.
I think the debate came about with regard to Belgium based race, where the top Brit finisher came in the top 25....therefore, by all the top racers being together in an elite event, should improve the quality of talent.
My concern is that the sport will lose a little of the excitement for those racers who otherwise wouldn't get a chance to race against top class 'crossers.
