I have recently upped my milage. I do a couple 20 mile trainer sessions during the week. Up from 15 miles and I now sprint for a quarter of a mile every 2.5 miles. And 45 - 50 miles on a Saturday. Up from 20-25 miles. I always push for speed when I ride.
Since I have made this change in riding I am hungry all of the time. When I eat I am hungry about an hour later (Chinese food or not). I am hungry all stinkin' day. I am trying to watch what I eat, but I am no saint with it. I don't snack. I have dropped three lbs in the last two weeks. I am feeling great. Is my metabolism cranking up or what?
PS. I know 100 miles a week is a joke for some of you guys.

LOL, love the title of your post. I thought you were serious abou the tapeworm thing.
No to the tapeworm thing-unless you've been to a 3rd world country lately and even then it would be remote.

You need to up the fiber content of your diet. Eat lots of fruit, veggies, and whole grains. They will make you feel full faster. Also, you need to eat more often. Instead of 3 big meals per day, eat 5 or 6 smaller ones. You will probably need to up your protein intake slightly as well, since your muscles need more building material. Remember to eat before you get really hungry, or you will tend to overeat.
After a hard ride eat a balanced small meal if in a hour you are hungry eat another small balanced meal dont forget carbos and protein. Your hunger should taper off ince you have replenished your glycogen levels. Finish off with eating every 2-3hrs once your metabolism has returned to normal. Eat BEFORE you are hungry

Actually, I read an article not more than a couple months ago, claiming that those of us in NYC were more likely to have intestinal parasites of one kind or another than anybody else outside the third world... can't remember the reasoning ;)

a tapeworm is really only likely if you've noticed a SERIOUS decrease in bowel mass....i think.
seriously though, it's your metabolism.

100 miles a week is no joke. It must be nice in CA this time of the year. I can only look at my bike cause I am not one of those insane winter riders. Once I am riding usu 100 - 150 miles a week I can't eat enough food and still lose weight. But today I made chocolate chip cookies and I am thinking about having a Double Bock :)

I find that I gain weight when I up my mileage...I think it is due to the increased hunger. When I stop exercising, I never have any appetite, and I end up losing some weight.

I am trying not to pig out. I could stand to loose a few more pounds. I am also trying to eat smarter. Yeah, I was just joking about the tapeworm. It just feels like I have one.
Go to go - I'm hungry.
