Hello from Southwest Virginia, bland county.

My wife and I both are new to “actual” riding. We’re a family of four, (kids ages 6 and 4) we just bought “actual” bikes in the past few weeks, after I started “riding” with the kids on our neighborhood road. Of course the kids are still on trainers so it’s kinda noisy for now. They’ve been riding in the driveway for the past few years and kept asking to “really ride” like I would on my wally world bike. After a few trips with the kids, my wife decided she wanted to ride also. I bought a used Jamis Mt bike off a friend of mine, and we researched and decided on a Cannondale comfort 5 for the wife. We’re kinda lucky that ½ mile in front of our home is the Appalachian Trail, and behind our home they’re starting to develop a trail system for bicyclists. The county has always been popular with both road riders and Mt Bikes, so maybe the conties plans will pan out.

Hello ritepath, it's wonderful to hear that you have the whole family involved, and that you have access to such nice places to ride. I too am fairly close to a decent cycling/walking system here in King County, Washington, but the closest thing to the Appalachian Trail here is the Iron Horse Trail (which is best suited for mountain/cross bikes).

Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !
