I have an Actionbent Jetstream that i would like to put an electric kit on. I have an Ezip that's alot of fun but the recumbent is so much more comfortable. Any recommendations for a kit? Front (20") or rear (26") kit? Any other hints?

It looks like you could also consider and inline motor like E-4 from Electoportal or Ecospeed. Inline motors are lighter and more efficient but make a whining sound when being used.

I ordered a 250 Watt kit from Bionx to put on my Sun recumbent. It was one of the recumbent-compatible kits recommended on the electric bikes website. ( http://www.electric-bikes.com ) They also said that recumbents usually need to be equipped on the rear wheel, due to the gearing.

I haven't received the kit yet, although I ordered in June. People are going nuts over these things right now, so there is some wait time involved. From the place I ordered (Electric Cyclery in Los Angeles area), the bigger motors aren't even available until 2009.

By the way, the recumbent-electric combination is a quite efficient one. It's what they are using for many of the velomobiles. Good luck to you on your quest.

The cyclone double sprocket motor is a good solution for a recumbent, because it can be mounted to use motor power through the varied ratios on your rear cluster. It will require some mechanical skills to mount however.
I'm putting a 500watt Cyclone on a Sun Tadpole trike and am having some problems with the chainline from crank to motor. You wouldn't have that problem with a two wheel recumbent though. I'm running the motor power through an eight speed Shimano Nexus, and bought a 20 amp 24 volt lipo battery for the power end.
This is taking more time than anticipated 'cause I'm old and slow even though there are lots of tools in the garage. Should have it going in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the info folks. This is exactly what I wanted. Has anyone put one of the CL or WE motors on a recumbent?
