Hey guys,

I just did a blood test as part of a routine physical. I got a copy of my blood count information and here's what I found:

Hemoglobin 14.8
Hematocrit 43.6

I'm a road racer and train anywhere from 7-14 hours per week. I currently am taking a mens multivitamin that does not include iron. Do you think that supplementing iron will help improve my blood values?

Any insight or links you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I'm 48 and do take an iron supplement along with a GNC Men's performance multipack. Here are my numbers for reference:

Hemoglobin: 16.3 (11-18 normal range)
Hematocrit: 46.8 (32-53 normal range)

I don't know if the supplements have anything to do with it, but otherwise my diet is nothing great. My triglycerides and cholesterol were at the low end of the scale. My Doctor is in her 30's, and said the numbers were better than her's.
