Commuting - tips for "bike" shoes?

I ride daily for over a month using my leather Italian pointed(!) "office" shoes and dressed in jeans and T-shirt. This is not ideal - can someone advise on shoes that are suitable for both riding and "office". I don't like to be strapped or clipped to the pedals for one, and the shoes should not be too lumpy, more like sneakers and include tough enough shoe-soles to ride nice, and relatively easy to walk around with. And oh yeah, I will eventually wear bike trouser too...still thinking about that however...:D

Why don't you keep your nice shoes at the office and change into them when you get there?

That is what I do.

I just wear my Nikes.. we graphic designers generally get to wear what we want at work.

Of course, you could always take envane's advice..

i keep my work shoes there and a change of clothes, for me it is easyer, i just keep them in my tool box
(Machinist) i agree just find a place to keep your work shoes there, dont sacrifice the ride comfort

I found the pedals I had cut the sneaker soles I was wearing. I like the harder sole even if not clipped in. You do not have to put cleats on it. I also like changing shoes and socks and letting them air at work.

I commute in a pair of tahoes. I don't wear them at work, but, I could. They are that comfy, even with the cleats in.

I could see commuting in regular shoes and jeans.....if I had a 2 mile commute. 12+ with a few hills? No Fing way!!!!

I wear Teva sandals most of the time and I leave a pair of Chucks a the office.
I need to pick up some new Vans slip-ons for when it gets cooler.

I wear a pair of Rockport dress shoes on my commute and in the office. They're dress shoes, have a reasonably stiff sole, and are waterproof. I find they work pretty well.

I have to change shoes when I get to work as the thick soled size 13 work shoes and steel toed rubber boots I need hit my panniers. Nashbar has some dark brown laced only MTB/touring shoes that do not look like sports shoes and might be acceptable in some higher end offices. SPD compatible too. $45.00

I leave some shoes at the office.

Believe it or not, back in the 80s, I think, this use to be a Nike ad! It was about how to pronounce the name "Nike." Seeing your post reminded me of that.

Now, as to being on topic, I wear my loafers, but so far, I've only had the rubber platform pedals that came with my bike. It's a "trekking" bike, German-made, and such pedals are very common here. At first, I really didn't like the idea of riding without clips (I haven't ridden this much since 1994), but I've gotten use to the platforms, and am now reconsidering getting pedals with clips. Besides, in traffic, with clips, I wouldn't have time to clamp the straps down all the time, and would just ride loose, removing some of the seeming benefit.

When the weather gets bad, however, I will need to find another solution--boots, I suppose, and good shoes in the bags. But I don't wear cycling shoes or even sneakers (unless I'm in shorts). I just wear my loafers.

I have a pair of Specialized Taho. Specialized makes comfortable shoes.

i ride to work with sneakers and carry another pair to change into there.

sometimes after a hot/sweaty ride in, it's good to put on a fresh pair of sox and shoes after cleaning up-cooling down. i have 12.0 mile trip to work, a 40 minute wake-up workout!

you can easily fit a change of clothes and dress shoes in panniers!

i use spd shoes for tour or road bikes.
