Mountain Biking - New Wheelset, New fork, and BB7 installed!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Got my order in today! Rhyno Lite rims with Shimano Deore hubs. Went to the LBS to get the star fangled nut, cable, chain, and Presta valved tubes.
I have everything installed and almost ready to go.
I need to get the right length of Housing for the brake cable tomorrow, after I get that, I can fine tune the BB7's.
As you can see right now the brake cable is just hanging there right now.
Also, Any Ideas of how I should run the cable? no cable stays or anything for the front, lol.
Cant just run it down the side of the fork because when the fork compresses, then cable slacks.
anyway heres pics =)

excuse the mess, I have my house torn apart right now lol!
Your fork is on backwards.
No, it is not on backwards.
If that was the case the disk brake would be on the front side, and the dropouts facing the rear...
Thats how the fork is, the arc goes to the back. Ask the other guy on this forums who had that fork.
The words would also be jacked up if it was the other way.

I think your fork is on backwards dude...seriously...look at mine...in my pic above.
I'll need Approx. 28 inches of housing.

Just ask for 3ft and use some cutters.

Thats how like all the manitou forks are, the arch is going backwords.
look at their site.

Doesn't matter to me, man. If you wanna go over the bars b/c of a mech failure...that's your business.
http://itas.orga.com/itas/images/man.99sxti.GIF
thats identical to the fork I just took off my bike, thats an 2001 approx.
Look at the NEW forks.
DUDE I GARUNTEE YOU ITS NOT ON BACKWARDS!
The dropouts would be facing the rear and the caliper for the brake would be in the front!
the words would be messed up to.
seriously.
look.
If I turn the fork around, then the majority of the tire would be to the back of the fork, it would look totally ridiculous.
It is NOT backwards/
The secret behind Manitou forks is the trailing dropouts that make your bike handle 'quicker' in the woods. Shortens the wheelbase and steers mad.

Every picture has it facing that way.
Stop jackin' around with me,
The fork is right.
I gotta go to bed now Cheeto...thanks for letting me pull your chain for 20 minutes. Hook-line-sinker.
It's good that you stand behind your convictions though...if you really did flip it around and ride it before showing a pic...I would have felt kinda responsible for warping your mind.
Cheers
edit: Serious about the cable routing though. Inside the fork leg if possible. (keeps it from getting snagged)
edit2: Actually...you could run the housing straight up the back of the leg through the lower zip tie and the up over the arch through the upper zip tie...then to the lever.
Thanks for the test... -_-
I'm not as stupid as you guys think.

Shouldn't you be going to bed now as well Cheeto?
Oh, wait, I should be as well...

I was starting to wonder when the joke would end....
Decided to stay with the 6" rotor cheeto?
^It was cheapest lol.
I didn't know how big of a rotor would of worked anyway.
Figured I'd give it a try and see how I like it and go from there.
This is the last major upgrade on this bike. I just need to get a bashguard and a jump guide or whatever you call it and then I'm done, except for a new 8 speed shifter, and two new brake levers.
Avid FR5 levers are nice.
I just got a set of new Deore 9sp shifters off ebay for $5'ish...I'm pleasantly surprised. I put them on my junker and they work pretty well given the price I paid. I didn't even know they're "2-way release". Not that I care...just interesting how technology trickles down.

Cheeto, how's the new fork feel?
Fork feels pretty good, its a a bit stiffer than that old red on I had. If I really really jump on it I can come close to bottoming out.
The Lock out is amazing. I never realized how much energy and power the bob took off.
I believe it will work to my advantage tomorrow. I found out that they are starting us in a field, then up a hill, then back through the field then onto the trail (I was told to separate the racers) So I'll stay on lockout that whole time, and power onto the trail, because the trail is relatively flat and fast, except for the few gradual slopes and drops and stuff. Its a faster paced trail, good for racing. The tight turns on the bottom of the fast sections will really test out my BB7. The end of the trail is really technical and hilly/rooty/rocky. It's actually kind of rough.
I have to do 2 laps I think. Comes out to 14 miles give or take a few 100ft.
Rode around the neighborhood a few times to break in the brake pads, they stop pretty good.
Now, I just have to figure out how to keep my chain from falling off LOL!
I would put the granny gear back on, just so if it falls I can still ride, but I dont have a crank puller. so ahh w/e.
I'm pumped.

just put your front derailleur back on to act as a chain guide for the time being.

I took my FD off because I never used it and figured it was just sitting away wasting. Well, the next ride the chain came off all the time. At one point it even got caught between the rings and frame. One link got twisted at least 30-40 degrees. Fortunately my paranoia induced practice of carrying a multi-tool and a full set of hex keys got it bent back and riding well enough to continue.
yea, mine gets stuck between the frame and rings a lot, its actually dug into the frame a bit, but when I got the new chain, I sized it a little bit better and it doesn't have as much slack,.
You put rhyno lites on your "xc race" bike??

My XC race bike has EX5.1D's...what of it? Some of us are prone to causing destruction of components. Cheeto could possibly even be worse than me.
He needs the toughest most advanced wheelset available.

Ahhhh yes Killer B,
"Don't down someone else's stuff just because you don't have it, or understand the situation.
The way I ride requires the most advanced, toughest wheelset's available. If YOU have a prob
with that, then that's YOUR problem, not anyone else's...
I'll be VERY willing to bet that I wear out more components in one year than you will in five....
Wanna Bet?
I tried to be nice people..."

I really dig your kickstand. I didn't know that Stanley made bike parts:lol:
By the way, the word Manitou is a term used to designate an upset, or backwards spirit among many Algonquian groups. It refers to the concept of one aspect of the interconnection and balance of nature/life being out of balance, or backwards, similar to the East Asian concept of qi; in simpler terms it can refer to a pissed off spirit.

Man, there are some really tightly wound folks on this site. Dude, I will be very willing bet I get more sex in a week than you do in a month. Go kiss your components. :D

Normally I would way 66 is going to tear you a new one and whistle on my way. But I'd like to point out that comparing how much sex one has is vaguely (very) college fratboy-esque.

Another classic post from the Killer they call B....
"OK, so you idiots ALL wanna jump on the BandWagon...
That's fine, been there, done that...
Just FYI ( whoever ) I have 5 bikes. I wear out stuff faster
than I can keep it replaced. The mechanical's work OK for me
when I'm not racing... Get over it. I chose to stoop down to
your levels just to end the BS. Apparently ALOT of you posters
are kinda dim in the brains.... The XC cranks work for me to keep
that particular bike up & running. I have the chain tensioners & all
that ready when needed.
Just don't be so cocked & ready to down someone...
Actions speak LOUDER than words, trust me.
Anytime...Any place... But so far from what I've seen
in the pics you guys have posted, I'm not wasting my
gas to prove myself. Just go ahead and down me if it
makes you all feel better... Ha Ha "

The funny thing is he lives in the same area as I do but no one has ever seen him at a trail head or out riding. I tried to get him to ride with us a few times but he always had an excuse.
