Introductions - Hiya from Providence RI
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been primarily using my car to get around for years, so it should be interesting navigating the streets of Providence. I've been reading posts on the bike forum to get some ideas about which bikes are good for newbies. I test-rode the new Giant FCR-3 Monday. Nice ride, but can't decide if I want a commuter-type, or something more like my old highschool ten-speed, which, I guess, would now be called a road bike.
Hey! I too am from providence and have been biking there for about 6 months, pretty nice because most of the time you can go faster then the cars in the city.

Hello smurfathon, I have discovered that getting around on a bike is very different than driving a car. For one thing, there are places I can go on a bike where I can't go in a car, and vice versa. I've learned my neighbourhood much better by cycling around it than I ever did driving around in a car. The flowers are an added bonus!
Welcome to BF, and feel free to PM me with any questions :) !

I hadn't thought of that! It will definitely be cool if I can go faster than the cars in Providence traffic.
