So yesterday morning on my way home at 5am (3rd shift W/odd hours) im a half mile into the MUP potion of my ride (2mi road, 1.5 mi mup, 2mi road; short and sweet) cookin' along, WHAP! straight accross the glasses. Didn't really slow me down or hurt me, I just kept going albeit a bit dazed and confused. It didn't feel like a branch, it felt light and twiggy but firm and strangely soft. My best guess was 'bird' but I wanted to rule out branch, so this morning I pointed one of my lights up a bit. Sure enough, about half a mile in here comes this crazy bird flying at my face and swooping around in front of me. Stuck with me for about twenty yards. The city came through and cut back a bunch of overgrowth earlier this week, they probably destroyed its nest. :(

Then when I got home I was all happy about hitting 1000 miles for the year so far. (actually I probably hit it two weeks ago, but my first 3.5 weeks, starting mid March, my crappy old computer kept reseting itself; got a new one mid April) Then I logged into BF and theres some creep braggin' about 10,000:notamused: hmmph.

just kiddin';)

Congrats to Nutcase, thats quit an achievement! You have my humble respect and admiration sir!
But for a newbie commuter, I'll be satisfied with my 1k for a while, and the 12 pounds missing from my waist to go with it.

Oh no, another mileage-number obsessed OCD case. Maybe the universe is trying to send you a message by having a bird whack you in the face :-)

Congratulations!

I will be kind and not mention my mileage. :p Anyhow, there is always someone that will best you in that regard. The key is to enjoy it.

Probably a red winged black bird (or whatever variant you have up there). They are very territorial and will even hassle hawks and eagles if they fly too close to their nests. I had one last year that would whack the back of my helmet nearly every morning as I rode past it's lair.
