I am no longer a clydesdale!
I have been waiting a long time to make this post. I just weighed in this morning. I am 6 feet tall and went from 292 lbs to 199.8 lbs. I am still losing and my goal is to be about 185 lbs. We'll see what happens when I get there though.
It feels so wierd to have a "1" as the first digit in my weight. That hasn't happened since the 9th grade in highschool.
Thanks to everyone here for support and info! This is really the greatest section of the site as everyone is so friendly.
Thanks again!

Congrats man, although just because you're 0.2 lbs under the clyde limit doesn't mean you're in the clear yet. You can still fluctuate over 200 due to water weight ;)
Another 2-3 lbs and I'd say it's safe to call you a non-clyde... although you'll always be a clyde at heart. :D

Congrats man! I'm down to 273, still a ways to go to break 200. You are now one of the inspiring stories!

I agree. Hopefully I will continue to lose and be able to stay a non-clyde although I will always be a clyde at heart. There are so many situations and experiences I have encountered that only a clyde would understand.

Thanks. As I am sure you have heard a thousand times before you were the inspiration that started this for me and I am sure most others.

Stick with it. A lot of times I got discouraged about my losses but I didn't gain the weight in a year or two. It took many years to put it on and it's not going to come off in months.
Way to Go.

Thanks. I was stuck at around 201-202 for awhile and was dying to just get to the "magical" 199 number. I am confident though I can go lower and keep with it.

Thank you.
Thanks for all the kind words. I wish I could say it was fast and easy but it like most things it wasn't. All in all it took me about 2.5 years with plenty of speedbumps and wrenches thrown in my plans.

Congratulations. That's a great achievement. I'd like to hear the story of how you did it. How did you eat? How much did you cycle? How long did it take? What was the progression, that is, what was the pattern of your weight loss.
That's phenomenal. I hope to achieve something similar.

Thanks. I have my weight logged from march of 2006 all the way untill now with notes written about what I was doing at the time. I will write up what I was doing and post it here for everyone.

Well done, man. I wasn't going to ride today - but now I am.
Ok, Well heres a little write up about my experience. Ill try to make it as organized as possible but I am no writer so sorry for any grammar and structure mistakes in advance.
Here's some background. I am currently 21 years old. When I was a child I was never overwight. I was always athletic and in shape. I started gaining weight and becoming overweight in my first year of highschool (9th grade year 2002). I was 15 and I worked in a deli. This was when I gained tons of weight. Being in front of all the food was a horrible thing. I would make my own breakfasts and lunches that were equal to like 4 portions of what customers were served. I was able to eat anything in the deli all day everyday. I also went out to fast food places all the time. I put on a lot of weight. On 3/26/06 I weighed 292.0 lbs. Obviously I knew I was overweight/obese and I wanted to do something about it. This was during my first year in college and things were only getting worse as far as my weight went. I made an effort to make changes. I had no clue really what I was doing but I made simple changes. Less soda. Less fast food. My weight went as follows. (Keep in mind how I logged my weight. A number was only logged if it was lower then the last entry. I didn't log any gains. Not sure why but that's what I did and still do.)

For whatever reason I lost interest here. August came around and I wanted to lose weight again. Most likely due to the heat and summer activities in hot august while I was overweight and uncomfortable. So I started back up and was able to get to

not sure what happened but I took more time off. I had no direction or information on what to do. Without guidance I was very sporadic. I started again though

That was the lowest I had been in a long while as you can see. Well the first week in August I went on a cruise. BAD IDEA. I was trapped on a boat with tons of food. I figured I could reward myself since I lost a lot of weight already. I ate out of control. Free room service was bringing me food all day every day. I got back from the cruise and gained about 8 pounds setting me back months. Shortly after I had some unrelated complications and was going to the doctors a lot. On 11/15/07 I had a surgery and gained some weight from the recovery setting me back much more. I wanted to get back on track.

And thats where I am currently at now. I do have another surgery that I am scheduling for september/october but I should be able to put on less weight from the recovery.
As far as other info on how I did it. I kept it pretty simple. I do not drink alcohol or coffee at all, I do not smoke at all. I only drink water and seltzer/club soda. I may have a little bit of milk with cereal but thats it. I eat as much fruits and vegetables as I want and can. I really recomend the book Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman. I dont follow it 100% and it still has been very succesful for me. When I am eating I ask myself. Does anyone get fat from blueberries? Bananas? Apples? I have never heard of anyone saying "oh man I just gained tons of weight from eating apples I better stop." So I eat as many apples as I want. I really love fruit so I eat a lot of it. Boxes of blueberries, strawberries, peaches, apples, bananas, kiwis, watermelon, canteloupe ect... Same thing with vegetables. I love broccoli, peas, string beans, corn, asparagus, lettuce, ect... Noone gets fat by eating broccoli so at times I eat a whole bag. I eat whole heads of lettuce too. As far as other things, if I want something like bread I have a normal single serving. I eat only a little bit of meat and it is usually chicken. I am not much of a dessert guy so I guess that is good.
As far as the bike. I used to mountain bike a lot when I was younger. At another job I had one guy rode his bike to work and I thought it was the smartest thing. My car was hit twice parked where I worked and parking in general was difficult to find. Now I didnt have to check my car every minute because I was worried about damages. I kept my bike in the store in the basement and saved money on gas and got exersize. I got my first real roadbike in late 06 and loved it so much. At first I really didnt put in that many miles. Maybe 1000 a year. Really I did this with 90% diet only 10% exersize. It is so much easier to cut 100 calories then to burn off 100 calories.
Overall I went from a 44" waist and 4XL shirts to a 36" waist and XL shirts.
Any questions feel free to ask. I am open to sharing anything and I am sure I left something out.

92 lbs is very impressive, you should be proud.
Avoid at all costs - and i mean at all costs - ever putting the weight back on. With each lose/regain cycle, it's harder to burn off the fat...I'm sure others here can verify this statement.

Great Job! You should be very very proud. You will live longer & enjoy life more! Congratulations!
Well, I have been inspired. I have a similar story. (I'm 23, I was 175/5'11" when I graduated High School and now I'm 280/6'1")
I'm getting on amazon now to take a look at that book!
Thanks!!!

Really inspirational post. Thanks for sharing! I especially appreciate the observation that Diet was 90%. I have suffered for years under the self delusion that I can "work off" my weight like I did in my teens. I am a very strong "fat" man. 100 calories indeed is easier to avoid then working off 100 calories!
I am trying to reduce from super clyde to clyde status and finally clyde emeritus!

My library has this book. I'm going to check it out. 4 years ago I weighed 282 lbs and now I'm 211 lbs. Through exercise? Diet and exercise. Initially I lost a lot of weight a few years ago by running. I went from 282 to 212 then leveled off at around 215 for a while and got up to 220. I then joined a gym and started weight lifting, running on the tread mill, doing stepping classes, and a few spinning classes (15 times) but mostly weight lifting 7 days a week, Mon-Fri at 5:00am I was there at the door. My weight went from 220 lbs to 242 lbs but I lost 8" in my stomach, 7 1/2" in my thighs, my body fat went from around 30% at 220 lbs. to 21% at 242 lbs. I was doing weight lifting for strength. If you want to lose weight, try a dedicated weight lifting program with a plan but work on 20-30 reps with a low weight for endurance
