In the Blackfeet native language, the word Chinook is said to mean, "SNOW EATER."
This morning the temperature had climed to ZERO (F) for the first time in nearly a week! The wind shifted to the southwest (a CHINOOK wind). The temperature 1 hour later was 46F! At 12:30PM a squal line of thunderstorms moved through with 50MPH wind gusts and brief heavy rain!
What does this have to do with winter riding? Well, not much, I guess. I was out on my MTB dinking around in the muck and slush when the wind amost blew me off the bike. :p I guess that is somewhat bike related.
Supposed to be back to single digit temps in the morning.
Prayers to the Chinook gods are requested for all of us in the northern tier of states. ;)

I bet that felt hot! I rode in 20 F today and man that was nice and toasty. I never thought 20 F would feel warm. Oh well I need to quit replying to posts from you guys up North. We seem to be getting your weather down here. I don't remember it being this cold here before. Maybe that was because I was inside the house the previous 33 winters. LOL
Send that Chinook this way :D
It's going to be in the upper 20F range tomorrow. I just got to hit the snowmobile trails. Maybe I will where shorts not! :D

Hey John..
I wonder if its headed your way? It sure ain't hanging around here anymore.
We were -4 this morning and have managed to climb to 1F so far. Good thing the wood stove keeps things nice and toasty.. :D
I have not been on a snowmobile since I left Minnesota! I used to love being out on the sled! Loved ice fishing on the lakes as well.

Yea. No coat. Just a vest and long sleeves. Its amazing how our bodies and minds adjust to the climate. You don't have to stop posting. Everyone is welcome! Besides, you have been getting your fair share of cold down there this winter. Thats for sure! :D
What I meant to say is I'm going out and ride the snowmobile trails on my winter MTB.
I will be introducing a CAT2 (semi pro) roadie to the world of Winter Cycling. This should be Interesting. He and his wife just moved up here from southern NC. He is always asking me is it this cold all the time in the winter! I tell him its only this cold until may. It should be fun.

Yea, show him the ropes, John. He'll never view the bike the same way! :D
