When I am in high gear (small cogs in back) I get a noise that sounds like the chain rattling against the front derailleur. It happens whether I pedal or not, so I can be coasting down a steep hill and still hear the rattle with each bump in the pavement. The front and rear derailleurs (Campy Record) **** accurately and easily, and my LBS says nothing is wrong. To my mind, its almost like the chain is too long, so that in high gear there is not enough tension to keep it from bouncing around the front der., but if that was the case I don't think it would shift so well.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
John

Shift so it's on the larger chain ring and sprocket on your descents. Makes the chain sit taught and really quiets it down and minimizes chain slap when bombing down hill.

Your chain may be too long. What does the derailleur look like when you have it in small/small?
