Bicycle Mechanics - Have I ruined my new chain?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm resurrecting my old Trek 1400, and had a LBS put a new chain on a few weeks ago. Today I replaced the front derailleur - I bought a chain tool and pressed a pin out to remove the chain. Now that I have it back on, it's binding at the pin I chose. The link won't swivel smoothly.
Any way to fix this, or have I trashed it?

Happens all the time. Prepare to get your hands dirty, or wear gloves.....
Grab the chain in both hands, one on each side of the binding link. Now, gently flex the chain side to side. Don't try to bend the chain, just apply a little pressure. Normally, this will free up the link and all will be well.

Bottom technique is the one described by Bikewer. I've always used the first (chaintool) technique.
Like butter again! Thanks, guys.
