Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - your subie and your fixed gear

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Because it's BFSSFG???
I have both a "subie" and a "fixie" (not sure what term I hate more) but no real current pics to post up. Perhaps I'll do that tomorrow.

Great show, I'm surprised with the incredible success of WoW that MMORPG based shows aren't more popular.
Next time you try this however, take the reference out of the file name. ;)

The growing trend of performance car owners and fixed gears is really funny... 100 years of technology overlapping in two very different interests.
My brother works in a shop back home that tweaks the **** out of cars. The best in the South East hands down. I feel dirty going into his shop, even though it's spotless. mmmm the smell of 9 mpg...

i feel like i'm not quite old school but i'm still way ahead of the curve... 03 subaru, 07 kilo... now they're both way popular.
iansmash- are those weapons blue or purple? i had a friend who sold his purple weapons and i think they were the coolest wheels ever. i hate expensive wheels.

They're painted blue.
I love expensive wheels, but I live in a ghetto city and I don't want to get them stolen. I'm selling the car anyways, I get in too much trouble so I'm getting away from daily driving a "fast" car.

I'm pretty sure johnprolly's relative et al are using cars for pure hobby and their 9mpg engines are just wasteful. at least those commuters who drive are using their car to get to a job that (presumably) generates tax dollars and a revenue stream.

my car gets 28mpg. not the best, but it's better than an suv. how many rich *******s buy their wives two ton trucks that do get 9mpg so they can go get their nails and hair did three times a week?
the use and worth of 'hobby' or 'commute' is totally subjective. i think there's much more to be gained by driving a car around an autocross or road course(in a safe environment) than there is driving a car to a pointless destination like a beautician or adult video store. but even then, it's not by the design or intent of the driver that the car uses petrol or emits carbon.
you are an idiot if you're blaming the individual people for the status quo. cars need to derive their power from a sustainable source. it's not like the individual has a choice yet as to a transport device with the abilities range and time-efficiency of a car ... you can't say "oh i want a solar powered car that will go just as far just as well for the same price." at least not yet. for fatties, or people with disabilities, a car is the only way to get from a to b under particular restraints(most of them time restraints or cargo).
and just because you enjoy cars as a hobby doesn't necessarily mean you use them recreationally at any significant rate, or make them any worse for the environment. for example, i haven't done anything to my car to increase fuel consumption. nor have i done anything to my car to increase pollutant emissions. i'm right up there with you on saying '**** you' to people who remove cat converters or significantly decrease fuel economy on a car that's not for racing purposes in a sanctioned event on a track. but seriously, **** you if you're going to lump me in with those *******s because i enjoy automotive lighting, suspension and technical driving sport.
the infrastructure and economy are more to blame than the people who enjoy driving.
transportation is huge, this is a big country, and not every place has adequate public transit. what needs to happen is a shift in power source. not a ridiculous crusade against people who enjoy big powerful machines. you wouldn't even have a bike if it wasn't for people loving machines.

**** the environment. The earth is doomed already, might as well enjoy it while it lasts. Long live the 4cyl 2L turbo'ed beast.
Bikes are cool... but nothing beats high octane mountain driving. Touge, drifting... that s14 above is pure sex.

I used to own a 90 Loyale Wagon 4wd, 5 spd. Thing was badass, I got side swiped by a big rig doing 55 mph and drove home. It exploded 4 months later. It went 0-60 in no less than three days. If I was gonna get another car, its on my list. I've been car free for almost two years now, so I can't justify such a wasteful purchase.

I am keeping cc's argument to the other thread (which I have no problem having a friendly debate with). but the "**** the environment" stance reminds me of a quote I read in Foo earlier...
Ah fatalism, the new chic.
This thread is so earth-crushingly sad.

Subaru of North America has the most economically friendly plants in the country (so probably the world) and one of their plants is actually a wildlife sanctuary (not built in one, they built the plant and then created a wildlife sanctuary around it)

you mean LHD?
so it's a jap spec car that's got a LHD conversion or US spec car w/ the JDM drivetrain?
At the shop I used to work at a few years ago, we did a STi V2 swap into a 99 2.5RS
daybreak
08-03-08, 09:54 PM
it is most definitely a USDM impreza coupe with a motor swap. If i recall correctly, the only 2-door turbo was the 22b, and I highly doubt anyone would waste money converting a 22b to a LHD.
yeah... its a 00 RS with a full 04 STi drivetrain swap, sorry for the small replys i was on my phone haha, but yeah its got the 6 speed and everything, its currently getting a fully forged motor with a t3.t4 turbo so it will be going from 300/350 hp/tq to 400/400 or so

yeah except not.
the v6 sti ra type R was two door as well. there are plenty of two door sti's running around.
that, and all the 22bs are extremely unique bodywise, they have the body of the rally cars.

Yup you're right, and the 22bs are hand made  and pretty damn rare, but yeah, even here in oregon there is at least one v6 2 door around
