I recently bought a set of Look Keo Sprint pedals and the left is now making a horrible creaking noise after < 250 miles (it showed up immediately following the first rainy ride). I can actually feel the friction at a certain point in the pedal stroke.

This morning, I cleaned and lubricated threaded portion of the pedal that attaches to the crank arm threads. No dice. I believe the noise is generated from the cleat binding mechanism somehow.

Any advice on how to proceed? Do I have to tear down the pedal already?

nah dont tare it down

just get some thicker lube, like 'phillwood tenacious oil' and get it on the hinges and the spring and all that. also make sure the bolts on your cleat are tight

my sprint's did exactly the same thing immediately after i bought them. I greased, tightened everything, and the noise is gone now after about 150 miles.

I would suggest using a small brush to get any grim out before doing DeadSailor's remedy, which I agree with. I've been tempted to use my girlfriend's mascara brush for this job (I have the same pedals), but I'm not sure if she'll let me, or how to get that gloppy black stuff off....
