Thanks for the valuable input from the previous posts on this subject. My wife and I have considered a tandem with the idea that it would allow us to spend more time together. Your comments and suggestions will stir some very frank discussion and several test-rides before we plunge into the investment. With two in college for the next five years a tandem investment will be a push at best

FWIW, you have a very active tandem club in Charlotte -- Tailwind Tandem Club-- and an honest-to-goodness tandem expert & all around nice guy in Raleigh, Jeff Hutchinson at All Star Bikes... and they actually stock tandems from Santana, Calfee, Burley and Co-Motion.

Hey, I just noticed that All Star Bikes is having a Tandem Demo Day event from 10am - 3pm on February 7 (weather permitting). Talk about great timing....
