And this will be totally laid back? Even for a climbing-newbie/rookie?

Ivan Drago can't make it so you're good. :thumb:

Ok, I'm going to try to make this (hectic schedule day before)... and I may not have a car that day to arrive at starting point. This sounds super cool though!

I'll see what I can do... sounds like a lot of fun!
-Nico

Depending on where you are or if you can get closer to here, I can give you a ride up.

I may be begging you for a ride back to Rancho. I'm planning on riding this whole enchilada (120mi r/t). My wife is on-call if I need to sag (somewhere between folsom and elk grove on the rear leg of course ;) )...

Matt. Are you riding there? If so, maybe we can meet somewhere on the ARBT and ride together for a bit. Lemme know. :thumb:

I was thinking of riding. If I come alone it'd be cool to meet up with you. My friend might come though and he just got back on the bike after a month for a fractured radius, so he's not ready for the long miles.

You're down with the Vegas Code of Conduct thing right? What happens on the ride stays on the ride... :innocent:

This is shaping up to be a size-able group. :thumb:

I won't be able to make it after all. Too much work this week and too hard a gym workout has left me burnt-out and looking for sleep.

Hope you all have fun and I look forward to reading about the ride here (especially how the foothills were) and seeing the pictures that I am sure will follow.

Ride safe.

E.

Holy cow. That was the HARDEST ride I've ever done. Just shy of 54 miles. 4554 feet of climbing. With a lot of breaks. I am not doing this ride again for a long while. It kicked my butt!

4,544 ft!?!?!?!?!?!? :twitchy: Wow, maybe it was for my own good that I ended up missing out given I've only done like 100 ft of climbing in my life :o

How long did it take? Could a total newb (like me who's had his road bike for less than a month) do it but maybe with more breaks and such? I look forward to hearing how it went for the others!

All said, it felt really good to finish this ride. It was difficult and more than once I considered walking part of a climb, but I managed. The scenery was amazing too. Lots of good, just really hard.

Nico, probably a good thing you didn't come on this one. If I had realized how hard it would have been, I would have suggested something else!

Maybe I should frame the cue sheet?

Which part of the ride was the laid back part? :p

That would be the part where the rest of you waited for my sorry slow ass!

Other than that, I don't think I'd classify that route as being eligible for "laid back." It was more like "what the hell was I thinking?!?!?!"

By the time I hit Watt on the ARBT I was pretty gone. I threw in the towel (sort of) and gave honey a ring. I rode toward her direction another 10 miles or so, until ElkGrove-Florin and Florin (Shell station with lots of shade was too good to pass up). 108.49mi/6:15 in the the saddle. The temp in our van read 98 and it sure as hell felt like it. That was a great ride guys. Remind me to drive to the start point next time.. ::)

It was what it was, and we got through it. Some in better shape than others.

Thanks for the pics Matt! My wife enjoyed them. She wants to do the ride too, but from her car!

I'm in the process of planning a Sacto tandem wheelsucker ride for the weekend of the 24th. Stay tuned.

Any news on this ?
