i got an izumi gold chain today. pretty snazzy looking. i haven't had a chance to take the bike for a spin yet, but i'm sure there really won't be much difference smoothness-wise.
the one thing i have noticed about it though, is that it's pretty much exactly like the KMC 410H chain, except gold plated. still a good chain, but you can get the same exact thing in silver for about 10 bucks less.
i also got some MKS njs-stamped unique-custom pedals. they're pretty smooth as well...the actually feel smoother than my time ATAC clipless pedals that i had on the bike before.
i snagged both items from momovelo today for $44, and i'm going back tomorrow for the second day of their two day sale...apparently there's gonna be more stuff out than there was today...i think i'll get a pink cycling cap...hot pink.

But there are some refunds coming from there...I am hoping it is for stuff no longer to be carried, and Momo not going under

i'd be willing to bet it's the former. he probably made a ton of money yesterday. stinkyonions was there when i was there, and he said that some lady came in and bought like, $1000 in old school jerseys. just like...came in and was like "i'll take that whole shelf." or something. it seems like he has a pretty limited stock on a lot of specialized (read: imported from other places) items, so when he gets a lot of orders, and runs out, some of the orders have to be refunded. at least that's what i hope it is. talking to him yesterday, he seems to have some pretty cool plans for the place. you could always email him, or get on the newsletter if you aren't already.

Oh, crappy. I meant to get out to that momovelo thing, but I ended up doing laundry and cleaning up my wretched hovel.
Bummer.

i talked to him today, and he's actually keeping it open. he said he's just worked out a deal with vanilla to become the only vanilla dealer in the country, and that they're working on a custom city bike specifically for momovelo.
i don't think he'll be doing any mailorder stuff, or if they are, it'll be limited. he said he's going to go more for high-end/custom stuff, because there are a lot of shops around berkeley that can already take care of standard bike things. so, in a way, it's being scaled back. he said that the shop has become really gentrified in the last couple months, but i guess that's the way he wants to take it.
he said the shop is open every day except mondays.
he's got a lot of plans for the shop for the upcoming year.
I sure hope he stays open. I like the "quirky" stuff
he carries and I'm quite piqued by the cheeseboard
bicycle. I wish I had saved the newsletter/e-mail I got
from Kai would have cleared up alot.
