I just finished up the build on my LHT Speed Commuter and am very excited. I took it for a spin this afternoon and it rides very, very smooth. I wanted to build something that would be durable and fast and this fits the bill perfectly. Here's some pics:

Edit: the tan brooks will be sold to make place for a black one. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I got the tan one.

I dont know if the Brooks go well with the rest of the bike, but nice tires though.

The Brooks will go well with you backside though.

Yeah, I had to chuckle at crusty old but obviously well used and loved Brooks with the bars sporting the aero shaped top bar.... :D

How is that bar as a spot for resting your palms when you want to sit up? I'd think that the nice big flat area would offer a good resting position. But then again if it's angled wrong it could be suggesting something that it can't deliver.

I think that was a pre-broken in saddle, the tag is still on it so it must be new

Instead of changing the saddle you might want to change the bar tape to compliment it better. Why did you kill the decals on the frame but leave them on the wheels?

What type of gears? A compact double? And do the STI shifters work for you?

The frame has been freshly powdercoated. I haven't put new frame decals on yet. The old paint job was peeling all over the place.

I like the aerobars, very comfortable. I very rarely ride in the down position.

Thanks, I'll consider bars like that for my cyclocross build.

Looks good, but I'd de-sticker the wheels.

Yeah, I'm debating on whether I should do that or add the Surly stickers to the frame and leave the wheel stickers.

More stickers is never a good thing.

i disagree. i put a "decide to ride" sticker on my top tube, 2 Raleigh stickers on the seat tube (riding a scott), and 2 NUT (Massanutten) stickers on it. looks pretty sweet.

I'm getting my LHT Friday. Can barely wait for the first ride, then the first shakedown ride, and the start of, what I hope, a long and beautiful relationship.

Hmmmm, that's an interesting mix of parts! Good for you for thinking outside the norm. I think it turned out pretty darn nice.

Personally, I agree with destickering the wheels. They're nice looking wheels, but the stickers are a bit much for that style frame.

Nice handlebars, too. I wanted to get some like that on my Felt road bike. But I hardly ever ride it.

The frame looks a little blank but that's not necessarily a bad thing... especially when the surly logo is so butt-ugly. ;) Get rid of the wheel stickers and it will have this cool stripped down sleeper look to it.

Thanks! I agree on the wheel stickers. I am probably going to get rid of them.

As far as frame stickers, I may just end up designing my own. I have a sweet logo in mind that I might do. I think Surly make some great bicycle parts and fames, which is the important thing, but their logos, fonts and some colors are less than to be desired (IMO of course).

I took the bike for a 15 mile loop this afternoon and it just hums right along. There is a 50 mile charity ride this weekend that I am thinking of riding it on. Give it a real test.

PS: Your bike is pretty damn sweet too!

Make sure you put up pics. What size did you get? Is it mainly a commuter for you?

Nice!
I have the same color lht frame, and the paint also is chipping off like crazy. I have had other surly frames and the paint was much more durable. Maybe it is something particular to that dark red color? I'll probably repaint mine next summer ( green!).

I agree completely. I spent a considerable amount of time and effort to remove all the stickers from my LHT, and it looks a lot classier.
