One might almost think that our local newspaper -- the Omaha World Herald -- is becoming bike centric! Here is an article on the famous Taco Thursday ride along the Wabash Trace. I have not done it myself yet.

I have not done the ride myself either, but plan to really soon. I just have to get my wife on board with doing the ride.

Personally, we are waiting for cooler weather.

I have had to wait because my son's T-ball games were on Thursday nights. Cooler weather? Come on, I biked yesterday from North West O to Fremont and back and it actually wasn't that bad.

Be sure to keep your wits about you when stopping for food/beer. There are several instances where people will ride a crappy bike up there just to steal and ride back the nicer ones.

Jess, are there places to lock up your bike? That reminds me...I still need to get a bike lock. I don't exactly have an expensive bike just a Trek 7200.

Yeah there are places there to lock it up....just alot of people dont think to. You could always just lock two bikes together but you know how some desperate people can be when they see something better than what they have and need money. Not meant to discourage anyone here however......have fun!!

Cheers,

The Taco is a great ride-lots of drinking- lots of riding- lots of skill levels. Unless you are riding in the high summer (stays light longer) good front and taillights are a MUST HAVE! It gets very dark on the path under the trees and bikers can be moving along up to 20 mph. Since my stoker(s) are under age, we usually try to ride early and get clear before the heavy drinking starts, but it is a good natured ride. A lot of people do lock up their bikes, me included, but a lot don't. You'll see everything from a boxstore Huffy, top end 29rs, Tandems, and a few recumbents. Like no other large ride, there is 2 way traffic the entire time, 1700 till close and close attention must be paid to oncoming traffic to prevent needless collisions.
