Hey,
I just received an email on a discount for the DDD. If you use the code freegas you get $20 off.
Looks like they are way short on registration. The code is good until Friday, midnight.

Unfortunately, the price of this ride keeps going up the closer it gets. That makes sense from a planning supplies perspective, but not for encouraging last minute riders to sign up.
This ride was, what, $75 + registration fees when it first opened up?
Now it shows:
$105: July 26 - August 8th (not so bad if you use $20 off, but how many folks know about that?)
$155: Final Week
$155? I love this ride and sincerely wish I was going to be around to tackle it for a third time, but that's insane, in my opinion. What last minute person is going to want to pay that much?
too much cash when we can just orgainize a BFNIC effort up there for a fraction of the cost. later.
A little too rich for my blood. I do like the jersey this year though...dang it.

....but you're already registered....right? You have the hotel reservation already....right? ....or did I miss something and should expect to sleep in the car....again....?

So just wondering, why does the HHH sell out in an hour and this ride doesn't fill up? They are very comparable.

Good question.
For one thing, the HHH has been around longer, so has a reputation and lots of word of mouth.
The HHH also has Blue Mound going for it. That one last excruciating climb at the end of 65 or 120+ miles of riding.
The HHH is also earlier in the year, so not as subject to the potential high heat of August, when many riders start burning out a bit.
Otherwise, I don't know. This is only the third year of the Dairyland Dare. I hope it makes it because it's a really cool ride.
