Bicycle Mechanics - Removing dust caps from MKS Sylvan Touring pedals?

Anyone know how to do it non-destructively? The wrench where I bought them (a storefront shop, but I bought them via the web) suggested that I brute-force them off with a screwdriver, but that really doesn't appeal since replacements are $5 EACH plus shipping.

I think I paid $3 years ago for the special wrench for them. A Campagnolo wrench also works, I believe.

That's a brilliant suggestion, seeing as how you UNSCREW the cap. If you *really* don't wan to buy the tool you can wrap a rag on a set of channel locks and gently see if it'll undo it that way.

The cap is really soft metal so be careful or you'll **** it up.

Thanks, both! I had the feeling that the caps were unlikely to be pry-offs. An MKS dustcap wrench should be on the way to me by Monday, from Ben's Cycle in Milwaukee, $6.98 - not quite as good as the $3 you gave, DD, but better than VO's $12.50 (eek!) or the $29 (eek!) NOS Campy one from Ben's.

Ouch - dustcap wrench. Put that in the toolbox next to the left-handed smoke-shifter.

Operator's got it. Use some channel-lock pliers with a rag.

If it was a 30-buck tool or a sturdy part, I might. But the cap is fragile and the tool is cheap, so what's the payoff for not going with the flow?
