Hello,

I was considering buy a TdF DVD. Found I can buy either the 2002 (10hr) DVD or the 2003 (4hr) for the same price. Looking for suggestions on which one to buy in terms of excitement and such. Wasn't '02 a blow out?

I have the '02 TdF 4 hour DVD. '02 was a great race, though '03 was tougher for Lance. The 4 hour '02 tape probably has all the high points. I will be looking to buy the 4 hour '03 DVD sometime soon. I don't personally have time to spend 10 hours reliving the Tour. The 4 hour DVDs give me everything I want.

I guess the question is: what do you want? Would you spend the 10 hours watching the Tour. Or would you, like me, rather spend that same time watching the highlights of the Tour 2-1/2 times?

If you are looking at the tape as a fan or for entertainment, get the 4 hour.
If you are looking at the tapes to learn something about racing, get the 10 hour.

I would get the 10 hr either way. You can always fast fwd a DVD really easily- can't put back in 6 hours that might be really interesting for you.

What do you all think of ordering from World Cycling Productions?

(i've been thinking of making a thread about that)

This guy is apparently donating all proceeds to the LAF foundation.

Not only for a great cause but the best deals I've seen.

All 5 Lance wins on DVD 8-12 hour versions for 199 + shipping

What you get in the longer version is more of the big stages where the outcome was influenced...especially more of the climbing stages. The flat sprinting stages are mich shorter, and there are more features in there as well...
The '03 Tour DVD is actually 12 hours, not 10...FYI.

I have the 12 hour 2003 DVD set. Thanks to OLN, this is actually less coverage than we got by watching it live. There are some cool interviews and things like that and the mountain stages are long. As road warrior mentioned, they give short thrift to the flat stages though.

The best thing may be that the picture is crystal clear and beautiful. I really wish I HDTV.

I got the 2001 for 35 bucks shipped. What year did Ullrich go off the side of the cliff??

That was 2001

I thought 2001 and 2003 were great to rewatch. 2002 was a snooze from my point of view but everyone has their opinion.

I only have 1 or 2 DVD's left to watch in the set, did it happen late in the race?

I believe it was on the Luz Ardiden stage.
But I watched the 12 hour dvd of it, and I don't recall seeing it!

Not that late, if you're out of the mountains then you've missed it. It was Stage 13, Foix to Saint-Lary-Soulan. The stage before Luz-Ardiden.

Ah yes, the 2001 Tour de France, Stage 13...

Ullrich missed the turn and went over the handlebars...

He quickly climbed back onto the road. Teammate Kevin Livingston waited for him.

Livingston paced Ullrich back into the race. Ullrich looked a little the worse for wear, but rode like a champ.

Up the road, Lance sat up to wait for his rival.

At the end of the day, Lance crossed the line alone and won himself a yellow jersey.

The scoreboard told the tale. It was a great day in the TdF.

I love my TdF DVDs. :D

huge bumpage :D but are there any other alternatives to WCP in terms of ordering from? I'm based in the UK and I don't think they ship here, and I was looking to grab quite a few of their titles.

Thanks
