Why do you need a clamp at the other end?

Simply genius. Actually I thought about doing this to my orange Jorgensen clamp, but the problem arises if you need the other chain anchor, which reduces the clamp range.

you don't.........but I can't bring myself to destroy a clamp to make a chain whip; and I don't have a broken one....that's why it's temporary..........it's also rare that you need 2 whips; why buy another?....

What's missing is the short length of chain that's fixed at both ends to the handle. Real chainwhips have 5 half-links at one end that anchor one side of the cog while the long flexible end wraps around the rest of the cog.
