I have a Shimano XTR rear derailer and It's making noise when the chain moves through it. It seems to be coming from the sealed bearing portion of the pulley. Thinking that there was some dirt within the bearing, I soaked the derailer in some citrus degreaser for about half an hour and installed a new clean chain. The noise is still there and extremely irritating. I want my bike back to stealth mode, but I can justify replacing the derailer simply because it's noise. It shifts well.. Any suggestions?

Is it possible it might just need some adjustments ?

If you soaked it in degreaser, then you've probably taken the remaining lubricant out of the pulleys. Don't know specifics about the XTR, but on my 96 vintage, I can either A) disassemble the pulleys and regrease B) Buy new pulleys, bout $13 at LooseScrews.
I went with B

You need to remove the pulleys and grease them. I had a similar problem on a 105 der, the jockey pulley was dry and had some heat scoring!
If it has a cartridge bearing in the pully you can prize out the plastic seals with a knife or really small screw driver and clean out the bearing and regrese it.
If XTR are like XT derailleurs (and I think they are), they don't have sealed bearings. They have ceramic bushings. I don't grease mine because it causes them to pick up dirt faster and actually speeds up wear. Better to clean them well and leave them dry. Chances are it isn't the bushing making the noise it is a dry chain and/or gunked up pulley.

But if the ceramic coating is scored or otherwise eroded, you should coat them with a dry formula chain lube.
