Hi all,
I was riding today on my Crystalyte 408/4011 mounted on a rear wheel on my recumbent bike. Hot day riding with a friend at slow speeds.
36Volt li-po battery.
Normally I would ride at pretty much max speed but wanted to ride alongside my friend, so I was periodically bumping the throttle or cruising along at much slower than usual. The controller was set to run the motor on the speed winding, not the torque winding.
To make a long story short, we were cruising along a flat sidewalk when there was a bit of a bump from the motor, the power failed and the resistance went way up, meaning pedaling got quite a bit harder than normal.
The fuse had blown, so the power went out. I haven't tried reapplying power yet but when I spin the motor wheel it seems to have quite a bit more resistance to rotation than is normal.
I'm thinking something fried in the motor. I checked the case after I walked the bike home and it seemed a bit warm. Is it possible the winding fried from being ridden at slow speeds? That's the only scenario I can think of that might cause this.
Is it possible a bearing failed?
