Northern California - Road Bike Rentals in SF? Recommendations?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I did a search here but came up with nothing... or my search skillz just suck!
My buddy from Texas is coming out and wants to ride on Friday, October 3rd... so I'm taking the day off. However, he wants to rent a road bike and not a hybrid bike that you commonly see around SF.
Does anyone have any recommendations for places int he City to rent a nice road bike. I'd like to find a place that rents nice bikes and not just Tiagra equipped starter bikes.
Thanks in advance for any leads and ideas.
BTW, I plan to take him around the City. Although I have no clue about good routes... But I'll figure something out. Anyone game to go or maybe help be my navigator! hehe! :thumb:
Thanks!
Gary

Pacific Bikes rents proper road bikes: http://pacbikes.com/page.cfm?pageID=126
Thanks!
Whoa, that's a hefty deposit. But I guess it's necessary to make sure you bring back the bikes! hehe!
Thanks!

yep, only place I know in town that rents actual road bikes. I believe you can rent a Giant OCR.

Bay City Bikes rents road bikes (http://www.baycitybike.com/baybike/index.php?option=com_bike&Itemid=45) too.
If you can get to Sausalito (where the better riding begins anyway), Mike's Bikes rents the Cannondale Synapse and Specialized Allez. http://mikesbikes.com/page.cfm?pageID=154 $10/hr or $40/day
Dude.. burn a hole in the credit card and GIT YA BLING ON!

They'll even do a concierge service.. and bring the thing to you!.. Pay out the nose.. but hey.. you get to ride a Look, with a powertap, and whatever else you can come up with.
Wow! SVCC is the place to go! I wonder if my wife will let me sport the bling! haha!
O_o (Gary) - I'll keep you updated and you can help me navigate my way around the City! But we'll avoid those dreaded blind S turns! hehe! j/k!
When it gets closer to the date I'll probably post up a ride interest thread and anyone else that's available can come along too!
Thanks again everyone for the help. I also checked out Lombardi's. They rent Madones. So that's another option for my buddy.
One of the 4 Garys!!

You might try the LBS's. Livermore Cyclery rents road bikes over here, and they even have nice Specialized demo bikes for a bit more.

yo man... He rides a 52cm Allez Pro. He can probably fit a 54 on certain bikes as well. Any leads for him?
Lemme know! Thanks!

Avoid this place at all costs...
My girlfriend wanted to go on a short ride with me so I rented a OCR2 for $45 except it was miserably maintained. Headset was loose and the brake pads were so old that it couldn't brake properly. Biked past the bridge and up the headlands but couldn't come back down because the bike couldn't descend. Had to go back to get the car
Obviously I should of checked before I left but alas, hindsight is 20/20. I tightened the headset a couple miles in but there wasn't anything I could do about the pads. To add insult to injury, they just said "oops" and looked bashful when I told them about it. I don't think they care to get repeated customers.
Mike's Bikes in Berkeley isn't bad so you could give the one in Sausalito a try. Also, there's another bike store that rents road bikes (105 gruppo) just up the street from Bay City Bikes (Sora).
*Bump*
I'll be checking out Pacific Bikes for the road bike rental next month.
Silicon Valley looks great but may be overkill for us on this trip...here (http://www.bikeconcierge.com/) is an updated link, btw.
any other shops recommended?
Blazing Saddles is the biggest rental outfit around. Although they mostly do comfort/hybrid bikes, they also rent road bikes and tandems. http://www.blazingsaddles.com/store/?catid=7 They have a bunch of locations around Fisherman's Wharf. If you will be in that area, it might be a convenient choice and they can give you easy directions to get to the Golden Gate Bridge.
