I'm surprised there's not already a topic for this!

It's simply, just list the funniest thing you've seen (or better yet, experienced) on a bike or while biking - just so long as no-one was hurt(that's NEVER funny :( ).

For me, the one that sticks out the most was the first time I actually worked on spokes.

Got done, took her out for a ride.... was making a sharp turn in a parking lot, and the back rim TACO'ED(folded up like a taco shell)! I was launched forward off the bike, ran a few paces, & stopped in a crouched stance staring back over my should at the bike.

Learned a very valuable lesson that day - be careful how tight you make the spokes. :roflmao2:

This one happened to a friend of mine. On their way to the bar some friends went diagonally across the intersection from a park and started locking up their bikes. While they were locking up, they notice another friend go flying through the bar. Turns out he had just put together a new bike and had not double checked the stem. So as he arrived on the other side of the road he went to turn...stem turned, bike kept going. There were the sounds of bar patrons going "whoa." No persons or bikes were harmed.

okay, i've got one.

i pulled up to a set of lights, facing north, waiting at the red. two lanes going north. i'm in the right lane, going straight. a guy (40s?) pulls up beside me in the left lane making a left turn. his windows are down. he sips his coffee, he listens to the news on the radio.

a woman (25?) starts to cross the road from the west end to the east end. this being a boring set of lights, i start to watch her crossing. she looks okay, i suppose. she seemed to have a bit of a grump expression on her face, and didn't have much of a... figure. the guy in the car is also watching this woman crossing the street.

the lady continues to cross in front of the lights, and is walking in front of me now. naturally, i continue to check her out. then... omg. :twitchy:

everything is gross. everything is moving. up, down. all over the place. it was not meant to be. definitely nothing nice to look at. i look over to my left, up at the west/east lights to see if they've turned yellow yet. i notice the guy in the car is facing me. obviously he was checking out this woman as well.

i look down at him and see the expression on his face. a horrible grimace. he must've noticed that i was looking at him (had my shades on), and he looked up at me. he started to shake his head with a disgusted look on his face.

oh my gosh it was funny.

I was JRA one day when I noticed the bar end plug was loose. So I smacked it to push it back in. Imagine the effect on steering.

ok, here's one of my own speaking about steering. I was riding to class in the rain on a hybrid bike with flat bars. I go to take this tight turn pretty quickly and one of the grips slipped off and that arm went flying off into a semi-jesus christ pose. I am half way though the turn at this point mind you. Managed to get the grip back on without crashing.

I did a similar thing once, so I don't have to imagine it. But mine was an old cruiser with grips...

Another one for me was in 1979 when I bought my first road bike, a Schwinn LeTour IV in Oceanside CA, I rode it from the dealer (Schwinns were sold by Schwinn dealers back then) back to my barracks at Camp Pendleton. Probably 15 miles or so, and I was feeling good, it was a great day, and a nice ride.

I hadn't ridden a bike in a few years, and all of my other bikes had been heavier but sturdier bikes. As I got to the barracks, I leaned the bike over real hard and was turning at full speed as the back tire started to slide on the smooth concrete of the driveway. It then hit the rougher asphalt of the parking lot and the wheel caught and turned the rear wheel into a taco shape. My first ride on my new bike led to my first need to go to the shop. (fortunately there was a bike shop on base).

Another fun one was in Okinawa a couple of years later (my next road bike) I was coming off base as it started to rain, making a right turn (the roads are the opposite of the states, so I was going from the outside lane) and I hit a steel grate that went all the way across the street I was turning onto. I slid across the remaining lane and came to a stop right against the far curb in front of several cars as they watched the stupid American get up and ride away without looking up.
