I'll soon be commuting before dawn and after dusk. Most of my commute is under street lights but one section is on a paved & lined bike-path with no lighting. I'll be on the bike path as the sun starts to ascend or descend.

I want reasonable illumination of the street & path that I use, but my primary concern is being seen by cars during my commute.

What systems should I consider? I'm willing to spend up to $250.

I'm pretty happy with my TrailTech system and it is fairly inexpensive. It puts down a really bright beam and I get about 4 hours of runtime from my Li-Ion battery. I also have a switch for the headlight and a NiteRider tail light for the system. It does require a little DIY with soldering a few connectors but it's worth it if you want a top end light. If you don't need that kind of brightness, you would be well advised to go with LED.
