Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I have a mid 90s Burley Duet tandem. I've done some research and know what size rear press in bearings I need and how to get them replaced. But what about the front, does it have similar bearings? What size bearings are needed, and how are they replaced?

The front bearings are a fairly standard size used on bicycles and a good bike shop with snap ring and bearing tool (i.e., extractors & press) should be able to replace them without too much trouble.
You can still contact Burley to obtain the specifics... best to do so via the phone though.

From my experience destroying the rear bottom bracket bearings and spacer on my Bossa Nova, I'm guessing the front are probably press fit and glued with Loctite. That was the way the rear bearing were done. The usual Loctite used for bearings can be softened with heat. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I contacted Burley a little while back about some parts and received the following reply:
All of our remaining parts went to Tandems East.
You can contact them at:

Hope this helps. It did me.

I have a 1994 and 92 Bossa Nova. We ride the 1994 all the time. It now has a bit of a creak in front BB. I plan on taking it to the LBS before our next big ride. Luckily we have a spare bike. (It was $500 and was in great shape) I am hoping the LBS can get the parts easily for a quick return to service.
