First off, please don't nag me because I'm having this problem, but I'm losing weight at a rate that is alarming for me. I am almost 6' 2" I used to weigh 170-175 pounds in college. Last week i weighed myself and I was 151.4 lbs. I just got off the scale and it was 144.9! So...I'm now pretty solidly underweight. :(

I got diagnosed with Celiac Disease about 7 months ago, which has drastically changed my eating patterns and put me on a fairly strict diet. I don't want to explain what CD/gluten intolerance is but it's easy to google. Anyway, point being, I can only eat certain foods and because of the high price and the fact that I hardly make any money, it's hard to eat enough to maintain my now~150 lb frame, not to mention the demands that cycling puts on your body. It's frustrating to be in this catch-22, and I know people hate me because I can't maintain weight, but this is terrifying for me. I've dropped 30 pounds that I DON'T have to lose. I would eat more, but I'm honestly not hungry. When I'm hungry I eat, and I eat until I'm full, please don't think that I'm anorexic.

Are there any nutritionists around here who can recommend a 4-5,000 calorie diet for someone with CD and a limited budget? I don't care how it tastes/smells/long it takes to cook, I'm serious about gaining 5-7 pounds back and not dropping under 150 again.

wow. Thats quite a bit of weight you've dropped. Check out this website http://www.curezone.com/ Its a good resource of people treating and sometimes curing their illnesses. It's usually best to be your own doctor/nutritionist. It takes a lot of time and research but at least you'll get a lot done then those clowns who get paid and bribed to dope you up.
All the best to you.

What I would do:

You are obviously in a Caloric deficit. I would sign up for fitday.com and input several days worth of meals to get an idea of what Cals you are taking in.

Caloric dense foods? I don't know what you can eat other than gluten-free foods but I would go for peanut butter, avocados and nuts.

I'm not familiar with Celiac Disease but Wikipedia says that basically you're restricted to a glutton-free diet. Glutton-free diet are relatively common. Just avoid wheat and barley products. Also avoid most processed foods. Rice and potatoes are cheap substitutes for pasta.

A peek at www.celiac.com gave a lot of sources of info about gluten-free food. Somewhere to go after your doctor advises you.

Rice noodles are relatively cheap at the Asian grocer as is rice itself. Check these out: These are a fantastic high calorie snack: Pao de Queijo (http://cookingresources.suite101.com/article.cfm/pao_de_queijo_recipe)

Indian vegetarian food is also great and dirt cheap if you learn how to make it. Idly and sambar, dosa, vada, uttapam, all delicious and gluten free. $20 at the Indian grocer will feed you for a week if you're vegetarian.

If you're not so skilful in the kitchen, get stuff like Zatarain's red beans and rice. They have a whole line of pretty good stuff, bean soups, etc. All very cheap as well. Just add water and cook.

this isnt meant as a jab, so dont take it as such. your dr diagnosed you with CD and then didn't give you recommendations on how/what to eat or set you up with a nutritionist? is there any chance that you can give him/her a call and get a referral?
