Ok so tonight I joined the Womens Ride in Vinings. I was a tad nervous as it was a new group to me and I thought the area might be hilly. It was hilly - but nothing I haven't already faced! Most of the ride I was last (In front of the sweep) and then towards the end I was encouraging the rider in fornt of me as she was wavering and feeling it I think. I finally past her and finished up ahead of at least one rider on the ride. I guess my point was I was not dead last - or maybe I have finally found a group with someone at my level... In any case the leaders were very nice - a faster group and a slower one. So it was very nice to feel suported and welcome. The ride went buy some amazing houses on Mt ParanRoad, Northside and others. Quite a beautiful ride and I thought I coudl not ride in that area due to traffic or hills. Nope Miss Bumble does Vining and Buckhead!

Humidity - About 50%, temp 90ish...18.25 miles 1 hr 34 min 39 seconds (Avg 12 min mile I think) Drank about one water bottle worth of water...

nice to hear you had a good time. I've been monitoring one of the local bike clubs that does weekly rides. When I find one I think I can complete and have time for I'll call the ride leader and see if it is open to non-members to see how things go.

excellent. I would drink more than a bottle in those conditions though. Make sure you drink a lot tonight and tomorrow to rehydrate.

Wow! Miss B , you're like the ever-ready bunny lately . Congrats , that is a nice area if you like that sort of thing . I prefer the burbs or country . My daughter lived in Buckhead for a couple of years , I always hated to drive in that area . kirby

Hey Kirby - There really was hardly any traffic - we took alot of back roads..the house were really pretty. But I do like the country rides better - with the horses and cows, but This ride - is really a pretty unique view of Atlanta so it's fun for a transplant (originally from Boston).

I'm sure the back roads would be cool , My daughter lived in an apartment about a mile up the road from Lenox Square , always traffic in that area. I'd like to try that ride you made a couple of weeks ago( The silksheets , ride I think was what you called it ; Cambellton) with the cows. I'm not far from there. I live in Tyrone next to Peachtree City . I go over and ride the cartpaths sometime , the ones around the lakes are shaded . kirby

My teammate and I ride that area a bunch, low traffic, hills and more hills makes for a good workout. We also add the overlook climb... (accross from the QT in vinings) try that one, I dare ya!

Glad to see you're mixing it up around town.

Hey Scott- Is the overlook Climb the one in front of the Atlanta Cycling Store? Not sure where the QT is in Vinings....There was one small in length very steep part. Otherswise alot fo hills...but I am starting to finally see that there are down hills too - I swear that fact has eluded me as I dread the hills.

Nope, you would know it as the overlook climb since it has a sign that sez Overlook at the light you make a turn on. I don't know what route you guys did so its hard to tell where you were but most of those rides go through the old town of Vinings (near the Home depot). We normally start in midtown and do the P-tree battle/Buckhead bellyache ride and those rides go towards Vinings... I've seen 50mph on some of those downhills so be careful.

Trish's site is a good one to get a feel for what's going on around town. She also has some links to the group rides on the sidebar. Southeastern cycling (http://www.sadlebred.com/)

Ride on,
