If I were to buy a bike, like the Specialized Roubaix Elite could I always transfer over the components if I were to buy a nicer frame down the line? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

yes, you can. last weekend I upreaged to 105 shifters and ultegra Rear derailer on my specialized.
it may however be a little cheaper in the long run if you buy a bike with what you want on it. But if you dnat have the money, upgrading is the way to go IMHO.
