Help! I have Shimano Tiagra Flight Deck 9 speed dual shifter. While out riding, my right hand (rear derailleur) shifter simply froze with the chain on the top (largest) sprocket. No shifting possible in any direction.
You can see that the inner lever is not resting comfortably in the larger, outer lever, slightly out of alignment and with a small gap. Any thoughts about what's the issue and how to put it right?

I'm not familiar with shimano brifters but usually when they go bad you have to trash them (looks like something broke inside, at least for me). Those units are basically sealed so if you are able to open it there is a big chance that you wont be able to put the parts together, ever.

I would try loosening the derailleur low limit screw (or is the big cog the high one?) first to see if that frees the shifting up. Be careful and do this on the stand and readjust before you ride.
Also lots of WD-40 sprayed into the shifter mechanism is a great STI cure.
Look in the underside of the shifter for a loose or missing screw. When the screw comes loose the levers get hung up like that. Might be your problem.
