Was thinking to change stem, whats your opinion on stem that would cancel out road vibration? Ti or carbon? I'm already using a carbon fork.

when i bought my new road bike ... i really tricked it out. the owner of the lbs ...who is widely considered an expert locally...said not to waste money on a carbon stem

i have a carbon front fork, oversized carbon bars, carbon seat stays, and a carbon seat post...and an aluminum less stem

it works just fine

Check out magnesium (Easton EM-90, Deda Mag00, ITM THE Stem)

you could check out a salsa steel stem. they're pretty light and pretty strong at that...and easy on the eyes...or just get slightly larger tires, or run a little less pressure in them...or just avoid potholes and such...or you could get nicely padded gloves, or change hand position...there are many ways to decrease the effects of road vibration in your hands...

Rather than looking for a new stem, I would focus on tire pressues and possibly some carbon fiber bars (Easton's), or even some "Phat Bar Gel inserts" to deal with road vibration.

The material a stem is made of will make very little difference in comfort with all other things being equal (rise, length, etc...) IMO. What matters most to me are the following
1st stiffness
2nd weight
3rd price
I use the same criteria when buying bars but add in non-ergo shape to the list.

I personally run ITM Millenium stems and either Titec Malone or Ritchey WCS Classic bars. Titec's being a bit stiffer but about 30 grams heavier.

If you want something in Ti, Titec has some really great prices on their Ti road stems if you buy direct. Check them out at Titec Ti Road Stems (http://www.titec.com/items.asp?deptid=9&itemid=23)

I got a Cinelli Ram Bar/Stem combo and it totally dampens out the road vibrations.
The problem is they are expensive.
Also, they run a little long (stem length).

As for tyre pressure, I need it to be 115psi Michelin Race pro as I need all the power to complete the 100km journey 50% uphill, and its a back road with very poor maintainance so hitting mini pot holes are unavoidable.

I'm really impress with the carbon post I'm using, it really kills most of the road vibration and now I'm a firm believer in carbon absorbing vibrations hence thats why I'm considering carbon stem and bars.

Just wanna know whats you guys feed back, for those who are using them please give your comment.
